Van Hoten says the supply of strawberries will extend into next, but that the labor of caring for them has been very great this season owing to the rainy weather. C. J. Stuart, T. D. Dewey and per haps other of our well-known horse men will probably attend the meeting of the Chicago Driving Park Associ ation next week. The Chicago & Grand Trunk rail way now run special fast trains twice each 24 hours, each way, between Chicago and Detroit, and with these trains close connection is made at Durand with the Detroit trains leav ing Owosso at 9:20 a. m, and 7 p. m. for Chicago; and for Port Huron and the east with the Detroit trains leav ing Owosso at 5:10 a. m. and 7 p. in. H. W. Parker was in Detroit on I'uesday. Commencing this week the 1. & M. railway company will run a re frigerator car from Grand Rapids to Detroit on Monday and Thursday. A lirce and enthusiastic railroad meeting was held at Opera Hall on Tuesday evening. His Honor, Mayor McCormick, pre sided, and speeches e?tting forth the advantages the Toledo, Ann Arbor & Northern railroad would le to the people of Shiawassee county general ly, and specially to the citizens of Owosso, were made by Hon. Win. M. Kilpatrick, Rev. Seth Reed, Hon. A. L. Williams, the editor of The Times, B. O. Williams, Jr., and James M. Ashley, jr., of Toledo. After the seeches a vote was taken on the question of the policy ot the city subscribing for $20,000 of the bonds and there was not a dissenting vote. The result was hailed by enthusiastic cheers by the crowd in attendance, and at a late hour the meeting ad journed to meet at the polls on Mod day morning for a long pull, a strong pull and a victorious pull for the prosperity of the city, and the triumph of such a policy as will make Owosso second only to Grand Rapids among the inland cities of Michigan as a manufacturing certre. J. E. Van Hoten has shipped 290 bushels of strawberries to Bay City and Saginaw parties so far this year. Miss Nellie Fergason, of Lockport, N. '., will spend her vacation in this city and at Saginaw. While here, she will be the guest of her aunts, Mrs. H. H. Daniels and Mrs. T. R. Bailey. The following good advice domes from the Flint Evening Journal: "When anybody gets married, dies, runs away, steals anything, builds a house, makes a big sale, or whips his man or his wife breaks his leg or has his senses kicked out by a mule, or does anything remarkable, and you have reason to believe that you know as much about the occurrtnee as anybody, don't wait for some one to report or trust us to find out by instinct but come and tell of it, or send us the facts on a postal card. Let us know every item of news that has transpired in your neighborhood." The Times is under obligations to D. L. Hall, Secretary of the Chicago Driving Park Association, for a com plimentary ticket to the summer meeting of the Association to open on Saturday the 14th inst., and con tinue through the following week. The entries are numerous, something over 300 we believe, including many of the best horses in the country, and there is no doubt if the weather is good that those who enjoy attending races will be more Mian pleased with a visit to the Chicago Driving Park at that time. Things to be remembered next Monday: 1. That railroad competi tion is the life of every place. 2. That there in from Owosso no competition between existing roads : everything being pooled. 3. That the Wabash system with which connections will be made by the T., A. A. & N. rail way, does not puol earnings with any other system; but paddles ts own canoe every time. 4. By securing the construction of the T., A. A. & N. railway the present lines running through Owosso will be compelled to j abandon the pooling arrangement, and each be on the lookout lor all the business it can get at reasonable ! rates. 5. This alone will save the business men of Owosso thousands of i dollars each year. The Estey manufacturing company I recently received an order from j Australia for a copy of their cata- j logue, and mail orders for goods from j New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Cali fornia and Utah, regions not yet car vaaaed by any of their agents. It is a fact that there are a,ooo people in the city of Owosso to-day ; in 1S80 there were 2,500. To our manufacturing industries we are in debted for this increase in our popu lation,. 1,500 in three years. With the proposed increased railway facili ties our vncrease will be, at least, double this in the next three years. Vote for the loan. We regret to note the death of Mrs. James Robertson, wife of a son of Mr. A. Robertson, of Caledonia, who died at her residence in Ionia, on Saturday last. Messrs. Hartwell & Greenman sold their clip of wool, with the exception of six buck fleeces for 31 cts. a lb..
