Buf the latter asked him, if it made no dif ference, to let him have the money in smaller sums, as, being a poor man, he might havo some difficulty in procuring change for so large an amount. Tht merchant, glad to get his lost mono back again, willingly consented, and tht honest finder took his departure. Captain Holstein, of tho Danish army, has invented, for the use of infantry soldiers, a shield, which, though weigh ing but seven pounds, is bullet-proof and handy. It is of steel, twenty inches long by eighteen broad. Two spikes at the oottom enable tho soldier to fix it firmly in tho ground, and a hoflow at tho top can be used as a rest for his rille. The experiments that were made with tho shield at Copenhagen, a short time ago, were deemed highly satisfac tory, but will be repeated on a laager scale before the Danish Government de cides as to its adoption for the army. Annie mitt, a year-old daughter of Captain Nutt. of Umontown, Pa., whom Dukes killed, and sister of the girl whom the murderer slandered, saw him stand ing in front of a hotel in that village. Enraged by the sight, she caught up a cobblestone and threw it at Dukes with all her strength. He first dodged be hind a mas, and afterward ran into the hotel. The citizens regret that the girl's aim was not moro perfect and her strength equal to the task of inflicting summary justice on the murderer and calumniator. HE HAD IT FIFTEEN YEARS.
