The flags for the signal service ordered by the Council have not yet been purchased as it is thought advis able to wait for a shoit time to see what action the Legislature would take in reference to a bill now before them to funiish these flags to all cities with two railroads and a popu lation of three thousand and over. . The meeting tft the busincsss men on Tuesday evening was well attended and some steps towards organizing taken, and a committee consisting of S. K: Parkill, C. S. Williams, Jay Terbursh, H. W. Parker and D. R. Salisbury appointed to draft a consti tution and by-laws. An adjourned meeting is to be held tonight at the city hall. In justice to the board of Supervis on they should be commended for their unanimous action in reducing the price of abstracts to residents of the county one half the county hav ing received, through the Register, very-nearly their original investment of $3,000 and the value of the ab stracts having increased at least 5,000. It i a measure in the interest of the poorer class of citizens, who arc nine-tenths of the entire number who ore required to purchase abstracts and to whom the burden is greatest. And the committee to whom the credit of the resolution belongs is, Supervisors Kenney, Mason and Trowbridge. Kilpatrick. G. F. North attended the State association of undertakers at Ann Arbor Wednesday. Myrtie, the 10 year old daughter of C. D. Ortner, of Bennington, was buried on Thursday Miss Bertha Phillips, oi Cleveland Ohio, is visiting her sister Mrs. A. McIIardy in this city. Supervisor Kenney, of Middtebury, dropped into our sanctum Thursday, and made a short stay. Attention is asked to the breeder's card of N. J. Strong, of Vernon. We can recommend his stock. Lew Munson has been very low part of the week, having had a relapse, but is again on the mend. The Grand Lodge F. and A. M. meet in Detroit next week. 'rank Ewer will represent Owosso lodge. Lewis & Son have purchased this season eleven tons of poultry at an average price of 7 cents a pound. M. Brown, of the firm of Brown & Mahaney is confined to his house by a severe attack of inflammation-of the lungs C. T. The annual meeting of the Central Michigan Agricultural society will be held at Meads' Hall, Lansing, Jan. 26, at 10 o'clock. The St. Johns G. A. R. Post had a public entertainment Saturday even ing for the benefit of John P. Austin, which resulted in $15 being raised. Perkins & Hume assisted by Drs. Ann Arbor Courier: We notice that Gov. Luce has appointed Stanley K. Parkill, of Owosso, as a member of the State Board of Pharmacy. Mr. Parkill is a graduate of the pharmacy department, class of '77, and is one of the popular and rising young men of the State in his profession. We wish both gentlemen success. The promenade concert given by the K. T. Band at the Opera House last Tuesday evening Was well at tended. Every one enjoyed the music and a good time was had generally. Next Tuesday solos by J, Spross and 'J. Gregory, duett by J. Spros3 and II. H. Moo.e will be the features of the evening. These concerts will be given every Tuesday evening through the season. -At the installation of officers of Gen. R. A. Alger Camp No. 29, Sons of Veterans, on Friday evening last, Commander Wiley 6 the G. A. R. Post conducted the installation exer cises. A large number of the Grand Arm) Post were present and assisted in the exercises. When the time came for the Camp to adjourn the boys discovered that they were prls oners. The Ladies Relief Corps had stormed the outer door of the Camp and had driven in the picket guard, and in fact had already captured the Whole Camp Sons, veterans and all. In about a minute the ladies had it all their own way, and after throwing open an inner door proceeded to pass refreshments to their delighted pris oners, of which all partook with gieit relish, and a riht good time was had. The Sons of Veterans voted thar.ks to the ladies and veterans for their assistance in making the affair an enjoyable ine. Lewis & Son desire to buy apples and potatoes in quantities. Rev. John Donnelly was in Detroit on Wednesday to attend the dedica tory exercises of the new Woodard Avenue Baptist church. This build ing is one the finest in th State and with the lot cost $155,000. The ladies of the W. R. C. will hold a drawing of two quilts Saturday evening, Jan. 22, at G. A. R. hall. Ticket holders are requested to be present. Sres2er3' Association. The annual meeting of the Shiawas see county Sheep Breeders' and Wool Growers' association was held at the Court House, Corunna, on Tuesday. The day was bitterly cold, but the attendance at the meeting was good, citizens being present from every part of the county; from outside the coun ty there were presen', R. B. Caruss, of St. Johns; D. P. Dewey and Geo. W. Stuart, of Grand Blanc, and that "hustler of hustlers," Robt. Gibbons, editor of the Michigan Farmer. The programme arranged, was carried out only in part, owing to the absence of Hon. Wm. Ball, who was to have delivered an address on ihe "Sheep Industiy in Michigan," and the un avoidable failuic of others to prepare paper?. In his paper on "The Out look for Merinos," Mr. Gibsons ex plained the causes of the low prices of sheep, wool, etc., and how, as the causes were disappearing, prices were certain to be better and the outlook good. We shall print this paper in full in a future issue. The opening address of th. president predicted a bright future for the breeders of Merino sheep, and urged all to keep their flocks and improve them. The Question Box, under the management of J W. Hibbard, proved to be one of the happy hits of the occasion, and questions of every kind were discussed in detail The election of officers resulted in the re election of the old ones as follows: president, J.
