Mention has been made several times in our columns of the dangerous illness of Daniel E. Wood, of Hazel ton, who has been suffering ior the past several weeks with typhoid fever. At one time Mr. Wood was thought to be improving, but suddenly his case assumed a new form which seerr.cd to baffle all efforts of the attending physicians. The death summons came on Sunday morning and removed a kind and indulgent husband and parent, and an honor able and valuable citizen. Mr. Wood was in the prime of life being thirty six years of age, and has been a resi dent of the township about twelve years having moved thither from Canada. ' We desire to call the attention of our readers to the lecture at opera house on Monday evening next by Geo. R. Wendling, subject: "Stonewall Jack son," This is the latent lecture from Mr. Wendling's pen. It is a series of battle pictures interwoven with many new and original suggestions concerning our war literature. In some respects this lecture surpasses anything Mr. Wendling has given to the public. His descriptive powers always regarded as exceedingly powerful arc brought in this effort to their highest work, and find ample field in the career of the .most singu lar and romantic figure of our civil war. The religious side of Jackson's life, and a strikingly novel theory concerning the oiigin of rectional difference, furnish material for much of Mr. Vendlirg's keenest and most facinating analysis. The whole of this masterly effort is conceived in the highest admiration for the theme, and yet is permeated by the highest patriotism, and will doubtless add.
