Country Their Streneth and Value Ascertained. The Ohio State Dairy and Food Com mission, under the direction of the Legis lature of that State, has made public the result of its recent official examination of the baking powders of the market. As many of the brands analyzed are in use throughout tho country, the report of the Commission will tic found of general in terest. The startling fact is brought out by the report that of the thirty different brands of baking powder analyzed, twenty arc made from alum, a substance declared by the highest medical authorities to bo injurious to health when used in food. Tho Port Huron Electric railway Company and the Detroit Elccti cal Com pany be granted the piivilcge to construct and operate an electric railway on and along the following streets in the city of Owosso viz: along Main street from the Jackson, Lansing & Saginaw tailrcad de pot to the easterly limits of this city, or beginning at said denot, aid running easterly to Washington street, thence southerly along Washington si reel to the Corunna road; thence easterly along said road to the city line. 2d. That such privilege be for the term f thirty years from this date. 3d. Such privilege to be null and void unless said companies shall within ninety days from this date begin the construction of such railway and prosecuio such fcork without unnecessary delay to completion by the 1st of Dec. 1888. 4th. That the building and operation of such railway, be properly regulated by this Council and, 6th. That Aid. A young artist, who la comparatively well known, lived for n time with a milliner, who for some months has been dying of consump tion. During her illness a femalo friend of hers used to visit her and ait by her bedside. The patient soon perceived that an intrigue was on foot between her lover and the friend. Accordingly she raised herself suddenly in bed one evening while tho pair were talking near her and pushed a petroleum lamp on them. The flames caught the dress of the hated rival, and she was almost burned to death.
