At the regular meeting Monday evening, June 17, Mayor Gould presided with seven aldermen present. A petition was presented, asking for the -extension of the water main on Elizabeth street; referred to water board. Accounts were presented and accepted amounting to $209.41: water works bills, $140.37. The regular monthly report from Justice Byerly's office was presented and placed on file; amount received from fines, 12.40. The committee to whom was referred the petition for grading Ada street reported, recommending that said street be graded eight rods north. The committee on sidewalks presented the following report for the construction and repairing of sidewalks: , New walks C.F. 13 rock way, C. L. Good 'hue, M. Campbell, Ira Merell estate, John Carr, J. S. Colby, F. 11. Gould, Waterhouse & liurk, D. Iiurhans. Walks repaired S. Pitts, D. Bur nans; report accepted. A minority report was presented from the committee on the petition for the sprinkling of Oliver street street from First to Oak street. Alderman Lamfrom of this com mittee stated that there are 51 occupied lots between those two points on ald street, and as tbe charter required that two thirds of the residents residing on a street should sign a petition, and as but SO bad signed this petitition, (which should be 84) he claimed the same weuld not comply with the ordinance. C S. Williams claimed that there were but 47 occupied lots and that a majority of Xhe tax payers on said street had signed the petition. Aid. Lamfrom's minority report was pot accepted. The majority report .from the same committee was presented, Tecommending that said street be sprinkled; - report accepted. A resolution was presented and passed - for the construction and repairing of side- walks in different parts of the city. A resolution presented by Aid. Lingle, changing the hours for sprinkling was lost. The following sprinkling resolution was V presented aud passed: Washington street tax, $315.00; $2.50 per UoL West Main street, tax $250.00; $2.50 per lot. East Main street, tax $37.50, $3.50 per lot. Exchange street, tax $87.50; $3 50 per lot. A resolution was presented and lost that a special committee be appointed to confer with Mr. Ilinman, relative to the purchase of three acres or land ror gravel purposes. The special committee reported in regard to another storage tank at tbe water works pump house, that they had received a prop osition from a Detroit firm to build a steel tank, S3 feet wide by 100 feet long, capacity 250,000 gallons, without foundations, etc., 'for $3,625, all complete, they to furnish and io everything necessary for $0,000; would have the same completed within sixty days. The water board thought that the first prop osition would be the best for the city. A resolution was presented and passed that this special committee together with the water board be Instructed and empow ered to prospect for more water on the city's land, adjoining the pump house, also ad vertise tor bids for all kinds of storage tanks, said expense not to exceed $50. The Ways and Means committee were In truded to advertise for bids for sprinkling Oliver street till October 1st, next. Tae committee reported favorably on the petition for grading Cass street from Wat fion street to the river; report accepted. A resolution was presented and passed that the clerk be instructed to draw an or der for $500 in favor of W. W. Harris & Co., N. Y., to pay interest on water works bonds, due July 1st, next. A resolution was preseuted and passed that the city defray half the expense of the new uniforms of our policemen; the total com of the uniforms is about $70.50. The city attorney was instructed to draft a m;w ordinance governing the license of hun kers and peddlers in this city. Adjourned. From the reports of the various super visors filed in his office.
