tors Wednesday.
G. B. Stackhouse, our tonsor
ial artist, is on the sick list, with
acute indigestion.
George Pierce, of Fletcher, is
visiting with C. M. Stackhouse
and family this week.
Mrs. J. P. Kennemur was a
pleasant caller at the editorial
mansion Wednesday afternoon.

of Nebraska, is here for the pur
pose of making her future home
with her daughter, Mrs. H. F.
Shirk, of the Elgin post office.
M. F. Richardson has again
moved back from Kansas. He
has moved out on his farm, some
seven miles southeast of town,
and we trust he is here this time
to stay.
J. A. West ai:d wife, of Wash
ington, arrived Wednesday to
visit with his parents Mr. and
Mrs. E. West, a few weeks.
They stopped at EIReno a few
days to visit with one of his sisters.
A corps of engineers, some six
teen in number, will be engaged
in surveying the Apache pasture
lands, immediatly southwest of
town, next week, and have en
gaged board and lodging at Hotel
Ulgin.

From what we can learn, we
are led to believe that about two
thirds of the cotton has been
picked.
Don't fail to see those dishes

Jim Fuston, of Lawton, was
here Monday and Tuesday, look
ing after the interests of his farm
just east of town.
Mrs. C. M. Stackhouse return
ed Monday evening from Fletcher
where she has been visiting with
her mother a couple of weeks.

F. C. Green and a gentleman
by the name of Perry, who live
five miles south of Sterling, were
in Elgin Tuesday with four bales
of cotton. This goes to show
that Elgin is a good cotton mark

A. Kaubena, of Lawton, was
a pleasant caller at our editorial
den this afternoon. He was ac
companied by A. L. McPherson,
the esteemed President of the
Bank of Elgin.
L Mrs. W.mtor Clark died in child
birth Thursday afternoon. Both
mother and child were burried in
the same coffin Friday afternoon.
This was a most pitiful death.
The mother was a mere child her
self, being only fifteen years of
age. Her maiden name was
Lena Griffin, and , she was mar
ried to Walter Clark almost two
years ago. Her mother has been
dead for years. Cruel, cruel
earthly fate! We pray that it may
be brighter on the other shore.
The berieved husband has the
deep sympathy of the entire com
munity. J. T. Whitwell of 5 miles south
east of Elgin, was in town Sat
urday. After meeting Mr. Har
rison on the street and subscrib
ing for the paper, he glanced at
the editor's name and found him
to be the man who located him
on a good quarter section of land,
4 miles east of Sterling. He
hastily fovnd his way to the edi
torial den to renew pleasant ac
quaintances and talk over the
early days.

Pilot Lodge A. F & A.M.
invited to visit Fletcher Lodge
on Tuesday night, when they
put on the third degree. Those
attending were Dr. Gamble, Tom
Richardson, E. B. Gregory, W.
W. Brunskill, Ben Hamilton, W.
D. Pugh and L. C. Coffin, all
from Pilot Lodge. Apache was
also represented by several of
the Masonic brethren. Fletcher
has a fine bunch of Masons, and
good entertainers. They showed
the boys a good time, had plenty
of hash, and smoke. The boys
can put the work on in good
shape, and are to be congratulat
ed on their proficiency. The
lodge here expects to be able
to return the compliment in the
near future.
