THE SUMPTER MINER. Wednesday, December 27, 1899 MINE NEAR CANYON CITY SOLD. Stamp Mill Will Be Erected Thereon In the Spring. That Canyon City U on the eve of a ureal mining boom Is an assured fact. Mining men and capitalists have been Hocking Into this vicinity for the past three weeks and all voice the same opin ion, vi.: That there are rich mines here and they simply need development to un told their wealth. Development requires capital and capitalists are ready to furnish It If given an opportunity. Only last week three well known min ing men, backed by plenty of capital, were In our vicinity for the purpose of ex amining the Last Chance mine, owned by I.. L. Hill, of 'I he Dalles. Mr. Hill left here about two months ago lor the purpose of Interesting capital, and as a result bcnator IJufur and Messrs. Wilson and Jayne, of 'I he Dalles, came here to investigate the mine. 'I hey found It far above their expectations and even better than represented by Mr. Hill, and before they left last Friday they had se cured a one-tlilrd Interest In this veritable bonana. These gentlemen, with Mr. Hill, will erect a ten-stamp mill in the spring and will grt everything In readi ness to push development work Imme diately. The mine is located about live miles east ol Canyon City and about one mile east of the fimous Prairie Diggings, which Mr. Hill claims has been fed by the J ledge on Ills property. A tunnel has been i opened up for a distance of 250 feet and the ore body lias a well defined foot wall. I he principal vein, however, and what hi all probability Is the lead proper, Is fully right fret in thlckiirss and assays from 5 to 4o per ton. I rotn lilty to srventy-tivc tons of ore are mi the dump, taken Ironi the tunnel. It Is the opinion of mining experts that our of the richest mines In Grant county will be the result ol the development of tills claim. Messrs. Dufur, Wilson and Jayne have also purchased an Interest in the Montana ipurt claim, owned by Mr. Hill and sit uated about one mile west of the Last Chance. Iheywlll also push develop ment work 011 this claim when thr vrlug opens. (1 rant County News. Cut $1500, Offered $40,000. II V. II.
