The absence of forests and wood lands and their glories and monetary values will remind our posterity of the neglect of past generations in all parts of the country, to protect "God's First Temples", to conserve a great natural resource, and perpetuate the beauties of nature. This notable condition in the presout age has given rise to a feel ing that has crystali/.ed into a decisive policy with definite plans of action for the encouragement of planting trees. It has emphasized in the pub lic mind the value of trees for beauti fying the home surroundings and the public parks, for their food product and for lumber, and for preventing erosion of the soil, and conserving the streams. The annual observance of Arbor Day by the state, Denominational, Private and Public Schools, and by the people of the oities and rural sections alike, has been the important factor which moulded public sentiment and result ed in valuable legislation in this state which will stimalate tree culture. It is earnestly requested that the day be observed in a loyal and public spirited manner by all our people, and that in the schools the day should be observed by appropriate and instruct ive exercises relating to forestry and kindred subjects which add to the beauties and wealth of nature.
