Wheat in this community in damaged to a considerable extent by the II v. Mr. J. 1. Chapman, one of our most energetic farmers, has plowed up a portion of his crop, which wasdamaged badly. The health of the community is very good, with the exception of bud colds and sore throats. The school at (Sreenwoud, tauiiht by Mrs. Carrie Jameson , closed last Friday, May 6. The young folks of this neighbor hood hud a moon-light fishing partv at the beautiful pond of M rs. MatMe Hol land a few nights ago. We don't think there were many of the tinny tribe pulled ashore, inasmuch as a number -of the lads and lassies were tishing without baited hooks. Mrs. M.J. Glenn, one of the oldest ladies in this community, while out in her yard a few days ago, fell and was liadly although not seriously hurt. Her bruises were very painful for several days. Messrs. it. C. and J. B. Wells have sold their farms in this neighborhood to Mr. A. Korbs. of Mallard, for $2,5M).rl. We learn that the Messrs Wells have bought the Cowset place at Neapolis for fSir. They will not move before September. Mr. B. C. Wells was very sick several days last week, but is better at this writing. Mr. John Overton and sister, Miss lieulah, after a pleasant visit to t heir sinter, Mrs. H. P. Phelps, at Soitthport, have returned to their home here. Miss Dora Lee, of Spring Hill, has lieen the guest of friends on Knon 'reek for the past week. Mr. K. 1. Chapman, of this place, visit ed his sister, Mrs. E. B. Anderson, at !ole's Chapel, last week. Miss Kul'i Kpps has returned to her home at ilarpeth, after a week's visit to her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. J. li. Wells, of this vicinity. Mr Allen, of Santa re, gave the con gregation at the Methodist church a Jine Sunday-school address this morn ing, after which Rev. hshinan, of Tim Dions, preached a very line sermon on "Unity." A large crowd listened to his scholarly discourse. We trust he will preach for us again soon. Services next Sunday morning at the Baptist church by Rev. Ration, of Santa le. Sunday-school at the Methodist church in the afternoon at 1 o'clock. Mr. J.T. Fleming and Miss Beulah Bratton were elected delegates from the Methodist Sundav-school at this place to the Sunday-school Convention at Santa Fe nu next Thursday. Several from our village will attend. Miss Sallie Sowell and brother, Sam, of Bethel, were the guests of Miss Liz zie Fleming yesterday and to-dy. Mr. and Mrs. Wes Roberts were the guests of relatives hre the latter part of last week. Master Hal Moore, of Wil'iainsoort, stient several days in our village with his aunt, Mrs. Li..ie Forgey, last week. Mr. Felix Jones is very sick at this writing. His many frieiids wish him a a need v l eeoverv. Miss Roxie Johnson visited relatives on Snow Creek last week. Uncle Toinmie Wrenn is still in very feeble health. Mrs. Ad Forgey and Misses Lettie and Sadie Williams visited relatives near Williamsoort last week. Miss Maude hutcheson was the guest of friends hero recently. Morgan, was assisted by Rev. Ratcliff, of Mt. Pleas ant. Bro. Hight also preached Sunday morning at Macedoii'a. We should all feel much better after hearing three such sermons as Bro. Right and Rro. Morgan delivered, anil may we all be able to live up to their teachings. Our Sunday-school is getting along nicely, and why not? The older ones takethe same interest that they seem to think the younger should. ethink it would be so nice to have the fathers and mothers take the greater interest iu our Sunday-school. Mr. and Mrs. Willie Murphy and Mrs. Blanche Holt visited relatives on Dry Creek last week. We are sorry to say that Mr, Frank Murphy has not been so well for the past week. Dauk's Mill, May 8. Death has again placed its icy hand upon the brow oi one or our tairest ana nooiest christian women, Mrs. Maude (Jooch, wife of Mr. Tom Uoocli, of Knob Creek. She was the daughter of M r. and Mrs. (ieorge McKee; was born March 1K72, and died May 7, WW. Maude has gone; her voting life, so full of joy and hope, has fieeti brought to a close. She was the idol of a fond mother and an affectionate husband, besides two sisters anil one brother. She also leaves a sweet little babe just nine months old. May (iod comfort the sorely bereaved family in this, the greatest sorrow of their lives. We lose our frieiids, but heaven gains them; we mourn while they rejoice. Bro. W. Anderson preached the funeral services in Beech Urove Church, and, as she re quested before her death, she was laid to rest in the garden at her father's home near Burwood, beneath a cedar tree, in the evening at '! o'clock. Kind relatives, look to our Heavenly Father for his love and guidance, and all at last will be well. Mrs. Lula Gordon and children, of Frierson, visited her mother, Mr. W. O. (iordati, last week. Mis. Charlie Irvine has been quite sick. Bro. W. Anderson will preach here in the school-house the fourth Sunday in this month. Mykt. Nichols, Mr. and Mrs. Will Beat, Mr. and Mrs. John Yokely, Mr. and Mrs. U . Church, Messrs. Arthur Church, Collie Real and Kinmet Yokely and little Misses Ku gene Algo and Snow Church spent last Tuesday on Rutherford Creek, tishing. They say they caught more than they all could eat. Anyway, they fried them all at one time in one skillet. Children's Day will be observed at Lasting Hope the first Sunday in June. MOW I). (iupton and wife enter tained friends from Hickman county a part of last week Mr. Frnest Kittrell and his aunt, Mrs. Ross Jones, of lsotn's Store, were in our midst last Sunday to pay the last tribute of respect to our beloved friend and neighbor, Mrs. Tom Gooch, who died at her home on Knob creek last Saturday at 1 o'clock p. in. Deceased had pneumonia and had been sick only ten days, and her death was quite un expected to those who so deeply mourn her loss, she leaves a mother, sisters and brothers, a husband and one little babe, to whom we extend our warmest sympathy. Mr. and Mrs. Haley, of Akin Ridge, were with relatives here several days last week Many were shocked and made sad when ihe news eaehed them of the de plorable1 death of Miss Pauline Dorset. Many tiearts go out in sympathy for the bereaved ones, and were it in our powe-, we would lift the veil of sorrow, hut God knows best, so we can only offer our sympathy and point them to llim vbo alone can heal the broken hearted. The unexpected and deplorable death of Mr. Henry Notgrass, which occurred at his home in Nashville on last Saturday night, caused from acute pneumonia, was a sail shock to this community. This good christian gentle man formerly resided in this commu nity, and possessed many near and dear ties here, and it is with sad hearts that the "parting farewell" is said.
