3Jf The Colorado Delta, located in Riverside and San Diego counties in Southern California and extending
down into Lower California, comprises about 1,000.000 acres of level, irrigable land that has been «» -during the past ■?
ages by alluvial deposits carried down by the waters of the Colorado River. 7 ;
3)f The Imperial Setttlement is located <n this delta, and comprises about five hundred thousand *j£
%? acres of level, fertile land, free from alkali, with sufficient slope to be easily irrigated. It is all Government land and |g
* can be taken up under the desert land law or the homestead law. 320 acres can be taken up by each person under the
3f? desert land law. and residence on the land is not required. This liberal law is liable to early repeal or unfavorable Jv
v^ modification. £f£
This country is suited to the production o*f alfalfa and the fattening of cattle, (a line of business that can
\S never be overdone) and to other agricultural and horticultural productions usual to Southern California.
vfc The climate is the finest in the world for eight months in the year, and the summers are not one-half as
w hot as you have been told. Any healthy man can stay and work with comfort all the year round.
v^ The Colorado River furnishes the most abundant supply of water for irrigation purposes to be found west
\£ of the Rocky Mountains. Its greatest flood is during the month of June, when it is needed the most,
w and the least supply during December, when it is needed the least— being about nine feet higher in June
v£ than in December. %fe
v£ The river carries enough water to irrigate 8,000,000 acres of land, hence the supply can never be cut short
*L by dry seasons.
2^ An extensive irrigation system is now being constructed to reclaim this large tract of country. The main
>£ canal will be enlarged and the branch canals extended to meet the demand for water as the irrigated area is
vtj enlarged. £j£
?£ Water is now flowing in the main canal, and will be ready for use for fall and winter crops.
tjj The waters of this river carry more fertilizers than is carried by the waters of any other river in world, not
excepting even the Nile.
?5 The soil of this Delta is as fertile as soil can be, and when cultivated and irrigated with this water u^
vjl it must continue to remain fertile, as each season's irrigation will deposit on each acre irrigated more than $10 worth
v£ of commercial fertilizers without extra expense.
tj> The land will be irrigated by mutual water companies, designated as Imperial Water Company No. 1, No.
xj> 2, No. 3, etc., formed to distribute water to stockholders only, at cost.
?£ The Imperial Land Company sells this water stock to the landowners— one share to each acre. The price \^
