The other day we noticed a crowd of farmers gathering at tho depot and curious to learn tho causo wo wont too and found thero a sharp fellow who had been around the country selling to farmers largo bills of groceries at wholesale, principally baking powder, soda and spices, and generally ten or fifteen pounds of tea at 60c to 80c per pound (just such tea as your homo grocer sells for 2.jc, or 5 lbs. for a dol lar), and any grocer in town would be very glad to sell you ten pounds of tea at such prices and give you, free, enough spices to last you a whole year. Now is this just and fair to your home merchant who, to accommodate you, takes your butter and eggs, near ly always selling them at cost and often at a loss, and in exchange giving you groceries at a bare liying profit and oftentimes ho carries you until fall? Why not, when you havo twenty or thirty dollars in cash to spend for f;roceries, as you havo with this worth ess sharper, take your twenty or thirty dollars and say to your homo merchant I want to purchase this amount in groceries etc., mako me as good prices as you can, and I venture to say in nine cases out of ten he gives you more goods for your money than you get from some sharper, and at the samo time benefit your own village. It has been even hinted that some farm ers borrowed money from their own merchants to pay for these goods. It is time farmers should stop and think and consult their own best interests. We were fortunato enough to secure a copy of a bill of groceries bought by a neighboring farmer which we give below tho printed conditions on which were "one price to all," so wo take it for granted that these were the prices paid by every one. Parallel to these figures we give a list of prices on tho same amount of eoods and tho quality guaranteed to be equal by one of our villaeo merchants, and the comparison in prices you can make yourself.
