Vassar is having its streets macada mized. There were 11 prisoners in Sanilac county jail last week. Sanilac County circuit court opened at Sanilac Centre on Monday. The tuition receipts of the Capac school this year amount to about $ o00. Pad Axe has decided in favor of municipal ownership of its electric light plant. Dwelling houses are so scarce at Caro that barns are being fitted up and rent readily. An Eastern Star lodge was organized in Capac last Friday evening. There were 30 charter members. George Paldwin, a Capac merchant, wan married last week to Augusta Ledebuhr, of Mussey township. The Paptist churches of Richmond and Columbus have called Key. J. K. Piatt, of Parshallville, to their pulpits. Miss Hattie McKlhinney, a school teacher in Omard, will open a Kinder garten in Brown City for the summer. The firm of Avery Pros. & Walsh, Port Huron lawyers, will be dissolved, Mr. Walsh establishing a separate oflice for himself. Fred C. Plood, a prominent Marine City citizen, died May 18th. He had been Mayor three times and was a Mason and Oddfellow. The bill of Lincoln Ayery against Mussey township for legal services, for K 15.95 has been settled, the town board allowing him $500. Romeo people are quite reasonably sure of work being commenced upon an electric road to Detroit by June 1st, to be in operation by Dec. 1st. Sheriff Maines lost an inch oft' the fourth linger of his left hand last week, while riding on the cars, by get ting it between the door and the jamb. The two-months-old boy baby left on Mrs. Benjamin Causley's doorstep in Port Huron one night last week is being cared for by the matron of the county jail. It haa been reported that Wm. Free man, of Lynn township, lost two cows lately from "black quarter." The car casses were burned to prevent spread ing of the disease. The foundation for a soldiere' monu ment at Romeo has been put in and it is hoped that a monument to cost $1,000 can be placed during the year. It depends upon the benevolence of Romeo citizens and friends and rela tives of the soldiers. About two-thirds of Mayville's pu pils staid away from school to go to the show ground last week, but when they caught sight of the truant officer coming they found any old way was good enough to get to the school house, the quicker the better. At Flint the council ordered the Bell Telephone company to remove their poles from Main street and when no attention was paid to tho order the city marshal went to work with an axe and during the day 80 telephones were put out of commission. The Baker house at Lexington was the scene of a shooting atl'ray last week. In a quarrel between Sandy Walker and James Darrah, Walker J lulled his gun, the charge striking )arrah in the shoulder blade glancing down toward the back bone, the doc tors not being able to find the bullet. Walker is in jail at Sanilac Centre. Mayville Lodge No. 105 IOOP has been reorganized and with officers elected and installed is now in work ing condition again. The old lodge organized some ten years ago was for a time successful and prosperous, but internal disscntions and excessive dues reduced the membership so that in 1897 the few left voted to surrender their charter. - Sanilac county school commissioner Macklem was arrested last week on complaint of W. H.Doyle, of Marlette, the charge being malfeasance in oflice based on the claim made in the cam paign last spring that Macklem had received pay for recommending cer tain kinds of school fixtures and appa ratus. The hearing was adjourned till June 12th, the defendant going without bail. In the Marks case a motion was made for a change of venue by P. II. Phillips, he not believing that Marks could receive a tair trial in St. Clair county, owing to a prejudice which had been worked up against him, but Judge Vance refused to grant the re quest and Marks will have his case called on Friday, June 2nd. He has been admitted to bail in the sum of $10,000, but bail has not been furnish ed and Marks is still in jail.
