We neglected to publish the St. Clair County Ponona (J range basket picnic and rally program to be given in the city park. Vale, on Wednesday, August 21, in our last issue. Knappof l ale on Wednesday, August 28th at half past two o'clock. The cool and damp weal her that has prevailed during the past month has seriously hampered the business at the summer resorts. Emerson Cooper and wife of Rich mond have filed their declaration for adopting an eight year old girl whose father has been absent for some time, leaving the child in neglect. The little girl's name at present is Ruth May Ranous but in the declaration the name has been changed to Ruth Marguerite Cooper. It is nu established fact "that good things come slow" and such was the case when we neglected to mention the Clifford band in connection with the civic half holiday held on Wednesday of last week. Clifford possesses a band that any town ought to be proud of and it is needless to say that everyone enjoyed the selections which they ren dered. Thomas Key worth an old pioneer of this section died at his home north west of Yale on Thursday, August 8th, aged (51 years. The funeral was held from the Bidleman school house on Sunday at 2 o'clock p. in., Rev. L. Clark preaching the sermon. Interment in Elm wood cemetery. A widow and grown up family remain to mourn his demise. (Jeorge Barth on Tuesday drove May or Stevens and Alderman Windsor, Richards and Roger Welch on a junket ing tour to Memphis, Richmond and New Haven to inspect the cement gut ters in those towns. The city council has voted to lay cement along Main street between Wood and Mechanic and made the tour of inspection to be better posted how the work should be djne. What a pity that Clifford, a little burg not half the size of Yale, can put up a band worthy of the name while we sit complacently by and fail to give our support to any organized effort to do as much here. Some day we may awake from our lethargy and then fall asleep again while the little towns around us furnish the music that makes our air castles tumble about us. Robert J. Carson a successful and prosperous farmer residing west of Vale recently brought two heifers to Vale and sold them to Ed. Sheehy cattle buyer for the handsome price of $100. The heifers were less than two years of age. This is a rather long price for such young cattle. Robt. has aline herd of Ayershires and takes pride in keeping his stock in line con dition. Mrs. J. II.
