In His Image. By William Jen nings Bryan. Publishers, Fleming H. Revell Co., New York, N. Y. Price $1.75. This volume contains the nine lectures recently delivered by Mr. Bryan at Union Theological Seminary, Richmond, on the Sprunt Foundations. The subjects of these lectures are: "In the Beginning ? God," "The Bible," "What Think Ye of Christ?" "The Origin of Man," "The Larger Life," "The Value of the Soul," "Three Priceless Gifts," "His Govern ment and Peace," "The Spoken Word." Mr. Bryan's reputation as an orator is too well established to need any comment. He is also well known as a man of scholarly attain ments of a high order. In these lec tures he deals with some of the great fundamental truths of the Christian religion, with special reference to counteracting the many false teach ings that have become almost as common in some parts of this coun try in recent years as they have been in Germany for many years. He shows how in many of the institu tions of higher education infidelity and skepticism are being taught to the youth of the land. He paya spe cial attention to the theory of evolu tion, that some men will hold on to and teach, to the overthrowing of the faith of the young in the Bible as the Word of God. Mr. Bryan deals with these subjects not from the point of view of the trained theolo gian, but from that of a strong-mind ed, clear-seeing, consecrated layman. It will strengthen the faith of any Christian to read this book, and it will save from shipwreck the faith of many a young man or young woman. If they can be persuaded to read it, especially before they have had their minds poisoned by the teaching of those who would destroy their faith in God. The Roman Catholic Bible and the Roman Catholic Church. By Allen W. Johnson. Publishers, Fleming H. Revell Co., New York. Price $1.25. The author takes up the outstand ing doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church, as presented by the late Car dinal Gibbons in his book, "The Faith of Our Fathers," which has been highly approved by the highest au torities of his Church. Among the subjects treated are the primacy of Peter, the infallibility of the Pope, the worship of saints and of Mary, purgatory, penance and indulgences. He presents the teaching on these subjects, as given in the words or the Cardinal. Then along side of them he puts the teaching of the Word of God, as given in the Donay, or authorized Catholic version of the Bible, and shows conclusively that the doctrines are not in accord with the teaching of the Scriptures. The argument is conclusive to any fair minded man, who will examine the evidence, that not one of these doc trines as taught by the Rom&n Cath olic Church Is founded on the Bible. The Future of the Churches. By Roger W. Babson. Publishers, Flem ing H. Revell Co., New York. Price $1. This book, like others by this same author, is a practical discus sion of vital subjects. It undertakes to show why the Church is not ac complishing more in the world, and says that if It is to accomplish the purpose for which it was established by God, it must deal with the prac tical things of life in a practical way. He carries out the idea that he ex presses In another of his writings, when he said what the world need? above all things is more religion. The Vindication of Robert Creijfh ton. We have classes afternoon and evening pnd twice a week they come together in larger groups to hear God's Word, and at this time 250 to 275 crowd in. We have sixteen different activities at the preseu. time. With each comes a i>eriod fordevotions, when hymns are sung, God's Word read, verses recited, and ending with prayer. We find visiting in the homes a wonderful privilege in our work and often a cup of cold water to the sick or a loaf of bread for the hungry in His Name has made the love of our Saviour real to those people who live in darkness. Send others to help us carry the wonderful light of the Gospel, not only to the Jew but to the many others who also sit in darkness. (Signed) .....
