COUNTY OFFICIAL TAPElt MIMBCR ST. HIUNI CHAUBCR OF COMMHCI MEMORIAL DAY The nation pauses today and with uncovered head, lays the garland on the graves of Its departed heroes, soldiers and sailors, who by the supreme sacrifice, made it possible for Old Glory to wave over the land of the free. There was never such a Memorial Day as this one. Tho boys In khaki Just returned from the bat tle fields across the seas, veterans of Chateau Thierry, Met end Argonne, Join htuds with the veterans of '61, and pa; . loving tribute to the fallen comrado, and tho veteran of '61 pays tribute to the comrade who sleeps at Gettysburg, Antietam and Bull Run. The bays of the North, the A man wto marries a good wom an, lives with her a number of years, and then after she has borne him children, forsakes her, is unworthy of the name of man. In fact, he is not a man, and there is no word in language which can properly des cribe him. The Jury in the Webster caso must have thought of this when, after 20 minutes of deliberation, they brought in a verdict of guilty. The defendant deserves no sympathy, and some husbands who do not pro vide for their families, should take the result of the caso as an object lesson. The law makes It plain that a man should support his wife und family. The Mist approves of the street Improvement and street building policy and plans of the council. Home biulding and streot building go together. There will be little of the former if tbe latter is neglected. Street Improvement, as Is the case of building good roads, is not an ex pense but an investment which will bring good returns. - rr A 171 1 sslss WAUES rUK attivicn is SUMMONS IN THE CIRCUIT COURT OF THE STATE OP OREGON FOR COL UMBIA COUNTY. However, there are some questions that are far more important than others, and the voter who has at heart the interest of Oregon, will study closely the ques tions before marking his ballot. To the Mist, it appears that the Reconstruction Bonding Amendment pnd the Roosevelt Coast Military Highway and the Market Roads Tax Bill are the most important measures on tbe ballot, nnd it believes that these measures should have the sup port of Columbia county voters. FOOD PRODUCTION There are many reasons why farm products will bring high prices. The same is true of all food products. The world needs food and clothing and the world must be fed.'
