The business men are optimistic and why shouldn't they be. A new mill is being built and will give employment to 50 or 60 men. One of the mills is running overtime and adding $5,000 per month to their pay roll. Another mill Is running double time and add ing another $5,000 or more to the pay roll. Many men are employed on road work. A large steamer will be built and not less than 100 men will have steady employment for 10 months or a year on this one Job. St. Helena has no room for the pessimist. THE ELECTION' From the election returns It Is evident that the voters In Columbia county did not c.re to boud them selves for another eight or ten mil lion dollars. The Mist decs not blame them. Ono of the big measures was defeated, the Recons'ruction Bonding Amendment. There was some good things In this, but the leg islature inserted many items which were not good. In fact, tho measure was like the omnibus bills that con gress used to pass in order that every one might have a look in at th pork barrel."
