ST. HELENS MIST. FRIDAY. JUNE 20, W9 WARREN Mrs. Gust Isaacson made a trip to Portland on Tuesday. Mrs. Porter Loo mis was a Port land visitor on Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Tarbell and Miss Era spent Tuesday in Portland. F. T. Hyskell of Portland, spent a few days with his parents at the Oregon Berkshire company. Porter Loomis will move the first of July from the Baker house, which was recently sold to Mr. Anderson of South Dakota. Miss Martha Reiper of Portland, SDent a week at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Boeset. Martha is convalescing after sprain ing her ankle VERNONIA Miss Hazel Madmsten also went U Portland Saturday to visit friend. Mr. Thomas Throope has installed a new gasoline pump in front of his store. Mrs. William Brown of Timber, brought two insurance agents to Ver- oonla Tuesday. Mrs. Vera Aldrlch is moving into the house recently vacated by Prof. J. B. Wllkerson. Mr. Emil Messing has completed his work at Timber and will go to work at Birkenfeld next week. Miss Katherine Lesser is staying with Mrs. Jack McDonald, recover ing from a recent Illness. Miss Lesser j graduated from Queen Marys high Porter Loomis. A bountiful dinner was served to the twelve Invited guests. The grange orchestra have been quietly rehearsing a farce-comedy to present to the many friends of the organization. They will present at the grange hall "Si Slocum's Country Store," and it is a typical reproduc tion of the characters and scenes found around the country village stores. The chief movers in the event are Mrs. John Farr and F. A. Hoyt, leader of the orchestra. Mrs. Farr is quite adept in the line as she has had some former experience. The proceeds go to the orchestra and will aid them in securing new music and will be a nucleus for a fund to promote the interests of the organi zation. The play will be given on Saturday evning, June 28. The most successful membership drive in the history of any grange came to a close on Saturday night, when the team headed by P. H. Lund came down the hqme stretch nearly 20 members ahead of Warren's "Long Pine," A. H. Tarbell. Until Friday evening "Bert" thought he would have the pleasure of eating lunch on "Pat," but true to that outwlttinw which his name indicates, he showed his metal by snowing his oponents under, in fact, he "surrounded them." Nearly 100 names were add ed, making Waren grange one of thel argest in the state. The next meeting of the grange will be held on Wednesday evening, June 25, at which time the initiation will take place of a class of 98 applicants. The grange now embraces practicall every live farmer in Warren and Bachelor Flats, and those who still ervised by Carl Enstrom, has been completed, and the work on the Rock Creek bluff is well under way.
