hit in New York last winter in the title role of
"The Devil," has abandoned villiany for whimsi
cal romance this season, and opens next Monday
as a star in "Septimus" at the Royal Alexander
theatre in Toronto, Canada, under Harrison Grey
Fiske's management. The play is a stage version
of William J. Locke's novel and is by Phillip
Llttell.
Sousa and his band, including the Misses
Frances and Grace Hoyt, vocalists, and Miss Flor
ence Hardeman, are headed this way from the
coast. They are in San Francisco next week and
after finishing their California engagements, will
be heard at the Tabernacle during the early part
of November under the management of Mr. Pyper
of the Theater.
An interesting announcement locally, in view
of the fact that the Mission theatre on Third
South is being rapidly rushed to completion, is
that Cary Nation has been booked for the Con-sidlne-Sullivan
circuit, of which the Mission will
be a part.
The New Theater, the project which has
caused so much comment throughout the east,
will be opened in New York November 8th with
a revival of Shakespeare's "Antony and Cleo
patra." The structure is the most completely ap
pointed playhouse in the English speaking world
and was erected by thirty New York men in the
interest of dramatic art. It Is intended to take
the place of a national theatre. As the theater
Is not a commercial venture, considerable latitude
was allowed the architects in its construction.
Iho building is provided with a commodious
