H 14 GOODWIN'S WEEKLY BKt count of his long association with a stock com- Kl pany here, Edward Eisner, Melville Rosenow and 1 Stanley DeWolfe. S Hi The new Garrlck, formerly the Grand, opens H its season of stock productions bythe William H J ngersoll company Sunday evening in "Brother Hj Officers" Hj .' Mr. Ingersoll, who scarcely needs an introduc- K tion to Salt Lakers at this late hour, has had his H1 company in rehearsal throughout the week and as the house is in readiness for the opening, thi Hf initial production Sunday evening should prove H an interesting event. H ' From a glance at a rehearsal or two during M the past few days, he has surrounded himself with M players of ability and in particular is this true H of his leading woman, Miss Neilsen. H Mr. Ingersoll is rated among the best and B . most prominent leading men in the country and B he has arranged for a season of popular and ex- cellent plays at the Garrlck. It will doubtless be H . hard for a time to disassociate the minds of Salt B jf Lakers from the idea that the flood and thunder H days at the old Grand are over, at least during Mr. H Ingersoll's engagement there, but if a high stand- H ard is maintained for the productions there will H ' be little trouble in quickly drawing to the house H the patronage of the best class of Salt Lake's H playgoers. M Much has been done in improving the theatre's M interior, and the house will be found comfortable, fl convenient and handsome. "The Walls of Jeri- ( cho" will be presented for the second week of the company's engagement. I In the appointment of Mel S. Wilson as treas- i urer of the Garrlck, the company in control of i the house have secured one of the most popular K and capable theatrical men in the west. Mr. Wil-' Hi son was treasurer of the old Grand several years h ago and his experience and foresight make him a valuable connection for any theatre. He is in charge of the opening of the Garrick for the In gersoll engagement and is completing arrange ments for Sunday night's performance with all possible speed. Many changes have been made among the per sonel of the office forces of the local theatres preparatory for the winter season, and among them is the appointment of J. P. Sequin of New York as treasurer of the Colonial, under Manager Een Ketcham. Mr. Sequin comes to Salt Lake after several years' experience in theatrical box offices and as he is a splendid fellow personally, his appoint ment as treasurer of the Colonial will doubtless be very much to the theatre's advantage. The Salt Lake theatre's regular season open3 Monday evening of next week, when Henrietta Orosman will appear in a new comedy from the pen of Percy Mackay, entitled "Anti-Matrimony." At the Daniels the Curtis company closed Its engagement in "The Summer Tourists" Friday evening and this afternoon opens in the new bill "The Lobster Girl." The show the past week has been one of the prettiest of the Curtis company's engagement, and something new is promised In "The Lobster Girl." When some celebrated pictures of Adam and Eve were seen on exhibition, Mr. McNab was tak en to see them. "I think no great things of the painter," said the gardener; "why, man! tempt ing Adam wi' a pippin of a variety that wasna known until about twenty years ago!" The late John Heneage Jesse, the well-known author, had an aversion, amounting to a positive I s L , t phobia, for the British Jeames. He has been known to stand in St. James street, on a draw ing room day at the edge of the curb, and with . the end of his stick, which he dipped into "the ' road-puddle, daub the immaculate stockings of j the passing flunkies, who, as he well knew, dare i not move from their stations, accompanying the act with much opprobrious language.
