' SATURDAY, JULY 25,. 1908.. THE riESERET FARMER 7 I
I GINGER AND DON BREAK INTO
1 FAST COMPANY.
j
.' Ginger and Don, together with a
-f&it string of colts sired by Allocn,
MWfc last wuek for Fremont, Nebraska,
where they will bo entered in the
rpces in progress there. Ginger and
Don are the two horses who have
oen occupying the limelight in rac-
. , ing circles in our State the last few
ymrs. The former was -owned by
Colonel C. E. Loose of Provo, the
letter by McCoy of Salt Lake. Last
ff ' iiPr they met in Provo to decide the
' ' .superiority and when the shouting
'Cr xW McCoy's horse surrendered the
. hnnHMomhip of the State to his rival
although lue forced the Provo animal
ilKjL to break the Stale recoid for the half
' . mile to win.- Later Ginger was raced
at Phoenix, Arizona and was beatoii
by Queen Potnora, owned by Tliomr
son of Snlt Lake. When we consider
'" that Ginger nmde the marc do ll the
. " ' . hunts under 2:8, and that she nosed
. . ' him out at the wire in one Ivent !n
2:734. the showing was not t 11 bad.
. '. . Last Strawberry tiny at Provo saw
vifcv.AJiOthcr chapter in the story. Ginger
" and Pomora met again in best three
out of five half-mile heats and Ginger
got sweet revenge by Unking three
straight. The best time made was
1 1:2 1-5, Ginger doing this with carcc-
ly nny forcing, the more in one heat
only getting within hailing distance.
4! Mr. Hal Brown, of Spanish Fork.
, the present owner of Ginger has ali3
acquired control of Don and will fol-
.. ' low the Nebraska circuit the rest of
the scason. Tire present wtek his
string is racing at Fremont, Ncbras-
I 'kit; next week will find them entered
I at Columbus and the week following
at Grand Island. After that Mr.
I Brown intends working through .Mis
souri on half mile circuits. Brown
is dye in the wool horsemen and
knows, we think, his horses perfectly.
He is proving this by fighting for half
mile tracks. We do not know a great
deal about Don on the longer dis
tance, but we do of Ginger. On a
mile track Brown will find a great
many horses in Nebraska and Mis
souri that can beat Ginger. On the
shorter traicks the cx-Provo horse
will prove as invincible in Nebraska
and Missouri as he was here. Tn any
decent condition he otn do better
' than a minute and thnt time will win
; Brown money in his .new field. We
I wish him success and will keep" our
readers posted as to the amount of
it. Mr. Brown encounters.
