Î Silver City Nugget ? Editor &nd Publisher John Lamb. V V V $3.00 Per Year V FRIDAY, JULY 31, 1903. ÎÎÎ TELEPHONE No. 26ÎÎÏ A leal fiiend, like a ghost, is much talked of, but hardly ever seen. The president is of a mind now to take the postoffice department out of politics. Fur aman oftho pretences and promises he makes, just why lie ever permitted the department to get into politics is something that ought to be explained. And now Boise is trying to get a beet sugar works located there. Nampa and Caldwell are both working on the same proposition. We have noted so many big en terprises proposed but never acheived in Boise, that we are willing to wager that she will be going to one or the other of the two other towns named for sweetenin' a good while before she makes her own sugar. No, dear reader, it was not be cause of the presence of so many clergymen here on the Sabbath that the sheriff and his deputy were kept busy. It was just the natural effervescence of young manhood—we apologize for using that word—and of two dozen bottles of champagne that caussd the early morning disturbance, and plain ordinary heathen chinks who did the afternoon shooting. Look out for a little war among the baking powder people Attorney General BagL-y's pronnneiamentt tliat the Royal and Price ponders are established articles of commerce and that dealers or the makers will not be required to label the cans, is considered unfair to other makers who claim to use only pure bi car bonate of soda and cream of tartar will get on the rampage because they were not similarly treated. It is well known that the Royal and Price cream people have formed combination and that they are try ing to shut out all others, look out for a very vigorous kick Iron» the Pacific coast manufactur ers. Idaho's Pure Pood Law be the leaven for "dough long, if some of the dough is not already in the baking. Lefislale for the American Mule. 'e It has been proposed to substitute the zebroid, a cross between the zebra and the horse, for the mule in South Africa. We have stood by and seen the electric car and the automobile relegate the horse ttf unimportant place; we have seen the header and the binder make man almost superftons, and the in-* cubator raise chickens and babies in a way to beat the hens and women. But there must be a halt called somewhere and the mule is the limit. Legislation and diplomacy should be drawn upon todo something for the country's mules. Who fought the great rebellion to a successful ending? The ranle, of course. Who licked the Spaniards and then went to South Africa and subjugated the Boers? The mule from America. Who stands patiently without kick ing until suspicion is allayed and then raises his feet and kicks every thing that gets in the way ? The a Now may before " an a male. Mr. John Hay, Senator Hey burn and the other gentlemen at Washington will see t heir 'duty and d> it.—Clipper. Go Away Off Somewhere. +c The young- men who had a "nice time" in the tenderloin dis trict last Sunday morning had not, of course, read the following editorial, because it was publish ed in the Idaho Statesman, in 1864; but it applies to their case just as pat as it did to the rapid young men of that early date, who were probably shamin good mothers and respected sis ters and brothers in the same reckless manner. Take a tumble to yourselves, young men. Just think of the remarks already be ing made about you. If von can not reform, go away off some where where your shame will not be brought home to your re spected friends. There are a few, and to the credit of the place but a few, who make a practice of getting drunk, go on a "tare" and make midnight hideous by tiring six shooters over town, not only discomforting those who are out of harm's way, and obliged to hear it, but endangering the lives of those who may be about their ordinary business. People have a right to be secure in their per son and property This is the law, but that means something more than that one man shall not purposely shoot an another with the intention to hit him, but that he shall not be endan gered by the reckless or unlawful conduct of another. Quiet peo ple who pursue their daily indus trial vocations have a right to be not in fear of harm just to please some lounger who hear himself shoot. f' W likes to As soon as the benighted people of the tornado, flood, drouth, ice locked and heat baked states begin to get next to thbmselves they will want to know when is the best time to come to Idaho and will be told, just as soon as they cm buv, tickets and shake the dust of those heath enish lands from off their feet.
