SEWARD DAILY GATEWAY GATEWAY PUBLISHING CO. --- "" SUBSCRIPTION RATES* One Dollar'per'Month: Ten Cents a Copy SEWARD, ALASKA, OCT. 17, 1908 NOT SEWARD ONLY It will be seeu from the article re published from the Juneau Record that it is not Sesvard only that recog nizes the fact that the best route to the interior leads out from the town of Seward. Naturally the people liv ing in Seward wish to see the town develop, they want to see as many peo ple as possible make this town the starting point from the coast when they are going into the rich mining camps that lie to the north, and it will be expected that they will advertise the fact that the trail from Seward to the interior is the most feasible one. It is not only the people living in Seward who speak most emphatically concerning this route, but those who have used both this route and other routes for reaching Valdez creek and other mining camps in the interior. Mr. Mathews as a disinterested party, and his testimony will tally with the facts about the trail which are well known to people living in Seward and i familiar with the route. Peter Mone-i han, a well known \ aldcz mining | man who has worked on \ aldez creek j this summer, came out over this trail, and he will purchase his supplies of the A. C. Company at Susitna Station because he says that he can save 40 cents a pound on what tlie supplies would cost him if he bought them in Valdez and took them in over the Valdez trail. As has been stated, the one objection to the Seward-Knik route was the: Crow Creek pass, and that has now i been removed by the new trail from : Girdwood to Indian creeK which has been built this season. The route from Seward is the natu- j ral route to the interior, and eventu-1 ally the bulk of the travel will come j this way, and Seward will be the dis- j fcributing point for the mail going into ( the interior. Seward wants only what naturally belongs to her from the fa vorable position which she occupies, and there is neither the necessity nor the disposition to exaggerate the ad vantages which she possesses.
