A shaft 125 feet, located s^ue ui*taiu* * fro n former workings on the tuiue, has revealed two ten-foot veins of coal, one encountered at a depth of 85 feet, the other 55 feet below this. The lower vein i> an especially tine grade of coal, much .superior to the upper vein. Mr. V\ hurt has reason to believe that there are two or three veins lying beneath the lower one en countered, and »s having the shaft continued to determine the matter. Mr. Whorf declares he lias orders for more coal than he can fid at the present time, but in the spring he tig ures on being in shape to supply the large mat ket. The Sampson mail brought him an order tor three hen dred ton* from one concern in South-; ea>tern Alaska. He proposes to estab-| lish ageueies in all the coast towns to handle his product.
