Municipal taxes at Fairbanks have been fixed at 1} per cent. Taxpayers do not complain of the rate, but say there has been an excessive valuation. J. K. Chilberg, of the Scandinavian Bank of Seattle, recently visited Ket chikan to inspect the Miners' and Traders' bank of that city, in which he holds a large interest. John Dexter, one of the old pioneers of Seward peninsula, who died recent ly at Nome, was buried at Ohinik be side the body of his daughter. The Nome council would like to have congressional aid to rebuild the bridges and roadhouses swept out ; during the terrible storm last fall. Almost any smart young fellow can tell the weight of a girl by holding her on his lap. A fellow of our ac quaintance once found out the weight of the girl’s father on that account.
