ROMANCOS SPLIT TWIN BILL WITH RALEIGH ON SATURDAY By SAMBO ALLEN Ace Carlisle, pitching under the handicap of a sore arm, lost his first game of the season to the Young Men’s Club of Raleigh, 1 to 0, on Saturday night at Ledger wood Park. Carlisle allowed 3 hits and walked seven. McCon nell, Raleigh’s ace, walked 3 and allowed 3 hits. Raleigh’s lone run came in the fifth when McCon nell singled, Poole singled and 2 walks followed. Roy Simms with a triple in the seventh led the Romancos at bat. In the second game of a double header Maxie Clippard started for the locals and allowed only two hits to gain his second victory of the season. The Romancos scored two runs in the first and three in the fifth to put the game in ice. Hansley, with a double and a single led the Romancos at bat. This week the Romancos will play Mooresville Thursday and Friday, and will be invaded by the Dunks of South Norfolk on Saturday night. First game r. h. e. Staff Sergeant James Braswell has returned to Carlisle Barracks, Pa., after spending a furlough in town with his wife and other relatives. RECORDER'S COURT NEWS Robert Pettiford, colored, of Rocky Mount, was found guilty of driving while under the influence of liquor and was fined $50.00 and costs. License revoked for 12 months. Elijah L. Hicks, colored of Scotland Neck, was found guiltj of driving while drunk and in I careless ^nd reckless manner an", was givfen four months on th i roads, suspended upon payment of a fine of $50 and the costs and $30 for use of Nathaniel Edmond son for damage to his car. Willie Clark, colored, of Roa ' noke Rapids, plead guilty to non support and was given 8 months on the roads, suspended on -pay ment of the costs and on condi tion he adequately support his three minor children. Neil McNeil, colored, of Little ton, plead guilty to driving while drunk and was fined $50.00 and costs. License revoked for 12 months. The Star-Lite Club Holds Monthly Meet The Star-Lite Club met on Mon day, July 2, at 8:00 p. m., for its regular monthly meeting.
