The artistic side of the work is emphasized and all work put out, to the smallest job, to attain to a certain standard of merit. MANUAL TRAINING. PLACE AND PURPOSE. "A nation can rise no higher than the ideals of its citizens and as the majority of our citizens must be producers, it is the nation's duty to educate and train his people for efficient production." Manual Training is a course in woodworking, its object is to train the child in elementry carpentry, thus forming a foundation for a more advanced course, the trade of carpentry. It thus takes a place as a means of efficient production a means by which that highest faculty of the mind constructive faculty is developed. As we believe that it is one of the duties of the school to hasten the day when no man will be considered cultured who cannot work efficiently with his hands, so let us understand, that this training which puts knowledge into the brain and skill into the hands will be no mean factor in the progress toward efficiency. HOSPITAL. In no way can we tell our readers what has been accomplished in the Hospital during the year, any better than by giving them a tew figures taken from the Hospital Records, which show 101 Hospital cases up to June 1st, which includes 11 cases Chicken pox 30 cases Measles and 17 cases Mumps. There were 203 cases which re ceived daily treatment and of these 65 are now still under a treat ment. 20 being trachoma cases which have received treatment throughout the year. e e pupils were excused during the year on account of tuberculosis. The girls who are and have been taking training in Nursing have done most excellent work. Sallie Short Bear and Josephine Old Shield assisted by Julia Dirt Kettle and Angeline Kills Above have had charge of the dispensary and operating room. 20.
