in before the first cold weather comes. It is a patriotic act of
conservation that we are indeed glad to do.
AST MONTH we printed on the inside of our front cover the
full copy of 7 he American's Creed as adopted after a contest
held by the city of Baltimore. This creed is a rather remarkable
creation. It expresses the beliefs of the American people in the lofty
words of our greatest men, combining and blending them into a united
whole that is at once complete and compact. We like it so well that
we have had all our school children learn it and intend to make it a
regular part of our school exercises. The American people have long
felt the need of such a creed. We have groped blindly along in our
advance from a weak nation to a strong one with no simple and con
nected expression of what America stands for until now. This fills
the bill and its adoption should be assured by the requirement that
every school in this country that is supported by public funds should
teach it to every one of its pupils. It furnishes an ideal, it supplies
courage, it stirs a love of country that should bring us still better
citizens' in the future.
"When the whole blame world seems
Gone to pot and business is on the bum,
A 2-cent grin and a lifted chin
Helps some, my boy, helps some."
