M: ; Your Committee to whom wits referred the death of our very worthy Bro. M. J. MAS^ENCHLL,, who died at his residence in Hazle lmrst.of a short but painful illness, on the Stli day of June, 187s, beg leave to make the following report: It is a pleasant remembrance of j your committee to have known and been on very intimate terms with; our worthy Brother as a Mason for nearly twenty years, amj we can truthfully say he was a “Perfect Ashler,” he was always punctual in his attendance to his Lodge, Chapter and Council; always prac-1 tising those important lessons he i first was taught in Masonry,— I “Faith. Hope, and Charity;” was j always ready at the Overseer’s call j to produce a specimen of his woik that was approved as “Good work, True work, Square work;” was al ways “Dumb and Blind” to the faults ot In* Companions. We feel it due to our worthy Brother to speak freely to his Bro thers and large circle of friends, j who now weep as an exile by the waters of Babylon, and point down the aisles of the future where they too must sleep, whose waves will disturb their deep repose; ‘Hark from the tombs a doleful sound” is surely the instinctive nIterance of a heart beating on us a muffled ^ drum, its funeral march to the j tomb. We may learn that the: quiet place whine ashes sleep some times speak the loudest. Too often : we hear the voice of the Grand Master and heed it not. Thunder ing in our ears are the pleas of Mercy, and flashing in out faces are the rays of light from the eter nal shores whose forms are seen chastening low. Not long will the pale horse with his rider pass by us, the Gol den bowl will shiver, our household Gods destroy, mir altars thrown down, and our roof tree be left toi new faces mid forms. There is a future, Oh! thank God, Ot life this is so small a pair, "fis dust to dust, beneath the sod. But then*, up there, ’tis heart 10 heart Resolved. That we deeply sym pathize with the bereft family, and our bruised hearts gaze out thro' mir tears as we turn to the sad home of the orphans’ cries and tears, and Widow’s woes and sighs; wemouiii with the sail heart that misses the strong mm that long held the helm that guided the fam ily bark down life’s dark stream. l!cso;ved, That as a token of our respect and esteem to our worthy Brother, that our llall, and his the Treasurer’s desk, be diaped in mourning, and the Brethren wear the usual badge for 30 days. lieso.ved, That the Secretary is hereby instructed to furnish the family with a copy of this report and resolutions, and request The Gopiahan and Masonic Jewel, to (•iiolish the same.
