PROPERTY OF g o s&mwm\ VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS OF THE UNITED STATES Mo»df/»ly News of the DEPARTMENT OF WASHINGTON VOL. 1, No. 1 The restrictions in travel necessitated by the war effort make it necessary that the Department of Washington, Vet erans of Foreign Wars of the United States, its Districts and Posts have a medium of inter-communication. In accordance with the authorization of the Council of Administration of the Department of Washington, a Department Publication is be ing inaugurated with this issue. It is believed that this pub lication will be a very important factor in developing the De partment, its Districts and Posts. In that way, it will be a real contribution to the work we are doing in behalf of the - Yakima Chosen for 1943 Encampment At a special meeting called in Yakima on February 17, the members of Post No. 379 voted to sponsor the 1943 Encampment. Department Quartermaster E. L. Alexan der, who arranged the meeting, announces that the Encampment Committee elected T. L. Allison, 405 South 16th, Yaxkima, as " chairman. Ray Kriner, secretary-treasur ~ er. Other members of the committee include Harry A. Anderson, Dr. L. L. Luger, O. L. “ Roberts, Dave Buchanan, Elmer C. Sutter, , present Post Commander; E. F. Stickel, C. - H. Mudd and Steve Burke. Due to seasonal occupations in the Yaki ma Valley, the dates of June 7, 8 and 9, (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday), were se lected as being most suitable to all con } cerned. It will be very definitely a streain y lined Encampment. The three days will be antirely devoted to the work of the VFW. The committee announces that the -‘, annual ball and the annual banquet will be held as usual; however, the street parade }snd evening shows will be eliminated in the ' interests of the war effort. Delegates are .‘urgved to make reservations through the partment Headquarters as early as pos ible. Organization Program By Victor Lindberg, Department Junior Vice Commander, Chairman of Junior Activities The purpose of this bulletin is to acquaint each post in the department with the pre liminary requirements necessary in the or ganization of a corps of the Sons of the VW, The Sons of the V. F. W. was authorized by the 35th National Encampment of the V. F. W. at Louisville, Kentucky, in Octo ber, 1934, The National Encampment dis tinctly specified the eligibility requirements for active membership, but detailed the re sponsibility for the organization and ad ministration to the Commander-in-Chief, who has with a committee appointed for that purpose, worked out all details as to by-laws, rules and regulations. FORMATION AND RESPONSIBILITY The post, as parent organization, has the direct supervision of the Sons of the V. F. W. Corps under its jurisdiction. WELLINGTON RUPP, Commander, Department of Washington Ja 9WS Second Annual “Hello America!” Radio Rally Set For March 27 In anticipation of the 12th annual “Hello America!” radio hour of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, has begun a recruiting campaign for new mem bers. The traditional climax of the annual nation-wide *“Hello America!” program is the obligation, via radio, of a coast-to-coast class of new members by the V. F. W. Com mander-in-Chief. This year, the ceremony will emanate from Washington, D. C., where Commander-in-Chief Robert T. Merrill, at a Blue Network microphone, will adminis ter the oath of membership to thousands of new recruits assembled in the respec. tive headquarters of more than 3,600 local V. F. W. posts throughout the country. The time is 8:15 to 9:15 P. M., Pacific War Time. Arrangements also are being completed to re-broadcast transcriptions of the 12th annual “Hello America!” hour via short wave to reach V. F.
