From that day, ihe educational interests have been wisely nurtured, and as a result, Minneapolis has a school system which takes front rank in point of efficiency and thorough ness. Visitors hav' always been ortspoken in their praise of Mil neanolis, because of its broad, regular streets, its fine pul lie and private b hidings, its beauti- ful church struct ures, and its shaded residence aveni es, bordered with i eat homes and beautiful lawns. The city covers an area of fifty-three square miles, so that there has not been, and need not be, crowding of residen- ces. There are few residences proper ly called palaces, but thousands of handsome homes, each with its large, well kept lawn, suggestive of pros perity and culture. • - - .. . V . . Minneapolis is an ideal point fron which tomal e excursions to point of inti rest just outside the city At the confluence of the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers stand; heroic Fort Snelling,established ii 1819. The original buildings am the modern barracks are locatec upon a most picturesque site, fron which can be obtained exquisite views along the river valleys A visit to the lort may be made by railway, twenty minutes ride, by carriage or wheel by way of Minne hahah Falls. Only a half hour’s ride from the city is Lake Minnetonka, renowned for its beauty, and enjoying a wide reputat o i as an ideal summer resort. Minnetonka is the summer home of many Minneapolis people, whose cot tages now occupy a large portion of the shores nearest the city.
