SCHOOL NOTES The HERALD will not be issued during vacation months, July and August. School closed June 10th, and all the pupils have gone home to spend theii vacation Miss Mary Brown, of New Bern, N. C. is the new teacher for the Day school recently opened at the Agency Miss Mary A. Cogan, matron at the Pine Point School, was a welcome visitor at the school here on the 13th & 14th. Look-out for the September number of The Herald. It will be the best yet. There will be more news and general reading matter and fewer advertis ments. Read the official announcement on page 7 of the Indian Summer Schools to be held throughout the Western states during the vacation months. These will be interesting and profitable meetings. Elmer, G. A. P., Chicago, 111. Many items of news from other schools have been left out in this issue for lack of space. This will not occour again and correspondents are request ed to send in there copy for the Sept, issue so as to reach this office not later than the first of the month. Items of news from all Indian schools in the state are especially desired. Rev Kah-o-sed and Rev. Wright, both Chippeway ministers at the Leech Lake Agency were over last week at tendingthe convocation of Indian minis ters of the Episcopal Church at this place. While here they stopped at the school and both expressed themselves as highly pleased with the educational advantages the Government is giving their people in the way of schools. A circular, for the information of the patrons of this school, will be issued sometime before the opening of next year, containing the rules that will be enforced in filling- the White Earth School hereafter. Children living near the Agency will be required to attend the Day school recently established for them, and in tilling the boarding school preference will be given the full blood Indians and those approximat ing full bloods. F. L. G. Malessy, teacher of the private Day school at the Poplar Grove settlement, was a visitor at the school during the “14th. celebration” and brought the Herald several new sub scriptions from his neighborhood.: Many thanks to Mr Malessy. We believe he is doing good work among his people over there for he reports that every family in his community now takes the Herald regularly and reads it. They are all good people we are sure and are anxious to give their children an education.
