It is hard to personate and act a part long, for where
truth is not at the bottom, nature will always be endeavoring
to return, and will peepout and betray herself one time or
another. A poor show for hypocrits.

I distrust, writes Emile Souvestre, both the intellect and
the morality of those people to whom disorder is of no con
sequence who can live at ease in an Augean stable. What
surrounds us, reflects more or less that which is within us.
The mind is like one of those dark lanterns, which in spite of

At the semi-annual meeting of the Executive Board of
American Catholic Federation, Father Ganns made a stirring
appeal in behalf of the Indians under the care of the Catholic
Indian Bureau, and as a result the Board decided to issue an
urgent appeal to all the federated societies to contribute to
the support of these schools. Father Ganns also reported
that the Catholic Indians of the West have in active operation
