Ours is claimed as a Christian country, and yet the de niers of the truths of Christianity are the very ones who are permitted to have exclusive control of our schools by banishing every other form of religion except theirs. The laws of cognition mirror the laws of real existence. Drunkenness is not the sin of the drink, but of the drun kard. Godless education the root, Revolution the blossom, A narchy the fruit. - '- Just as Christianity cannot penetrate in the individual soul without making it better, so it cannot enter into pub lic life without establishing order. (Leo XIII. ) Every page of history shows that wherever the Church could make her voice heard and exert her influence, civil society has flourished. Liberty is to be regarded as legitimate in so far only as it affords greater facility for doing good, but no farther. For nations as for individuals, the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
