Age ami Infancy are Bmored on Natal Days—Mrs. Greening 90—Lawrence Johnson, 6 On Tuesday evening last at the home of Julius Greening of this city, a number of the friends of Grandma Louesa Greening gathered to assist her in celebrating her ninetieth birthday. The evening wa.s very pleasantly spent in bringing to recol tecion incidents of the pioneer days and recounting happenings of former years, and an interesting letter of Dec. 5, 1878, was read, and a bou quet of flowers was presented to Grandma Greening by Mrs. Elizabeth Bury on behalf of the Woman's Mis sionary society of which she is pres ident A nice lunch was served about 10 o'clock, and after music and sing ing, prayer was offered by Rev. Gaines, before the company adjourned to their homes. Grandma Greening was greatly pleased with the honor shown her by this visit of her old friends. Another birthday party, where the age of the recipient was somewhat different, was that of little Lawrence Johnson, son of Pott master and Mrs. Johnson, who entertained a half dozen of his little friends last Tues day at a six o'clock dinner, in honor of his sixth birthday. The tables for the occasion were very prettily pre pared and decorated, and the little folks* had a very happy time ol it. Cmdl rraceedlags. Council Chambers, Milbank, S. D., Feb. 7th, 1921, 8:00 P. M. At a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Milbank, S. D. held on the above date the following members responded to roll call Aldermen. Goodman, Jurgens, Nelson, Riley. Absent: AW. Grams, Schneider. Alderman Goodman. President of the Council, presided. Minutes of the regulat meeting held on January 3, 1921, were read and approved as read. Report of the City Treasurer for the month of January. 1921, was tcad and on motion carried the same •was accepted and ordered placed on hie. Mr. Aug. Fenner was, present vfith complaint regarding placing of elec tric light poles across his property fn Park Avenue addition without his permission. The President of the council referred the matter to the City Attorney for attention. The bills were read and audited. Motion made by Aid. Nelson, second ed by Aid. Riley, that the bills be al lowed and ordered paid bv warrant. The roll being called on this motion resulted: Ayes—Goodman, Jurgens, Nelson, Riley Nays—none 2.absent, whereupon the president of the Coun cil declared the motion duly carried. WrarlaD Sires Report The library circulation statistics show an increase of 300 volumns over last year's report for the months of November, December and January. The quality as well as the quantity of the reading leased has been the best in the history of the library for the above mentioned months. Many of the gooti books have been placed in circulation through our cooperating with the schools a every grade from the fourth up has its list of required reading. The new registrations were IK adults and 195 juveniles making the total number of patrons enrolled 1549. The readers numbered 2970 o# whom 2420 were children. The reference workers numbered 313. Requests for material were re ceived from Waubay, Summit, Bis? Stone and Beardsley and Crookston, Minn. With our large file of maga zines and the assistance of the state .r, Aberdeen library commission, material was sup plied for all topics. Many of the books, most of the magazines, and all the pamphlets ware leased as refer ence material. The Story Hour which has been giv en every Saturday has had an aver age attendance of 35. The children have taken a very active part in the motion songs and finger plays and listened very attentively to the fairy tales and true stories told. They were greatly impressed when told of the starving children of the Far East and very quickly decided they would help with their pennies and have con tributed $1.86. To the list of magazines for the reading rooms has been added Radio News, Science and Invention, Scrib ners and Harpers Monthly. Ameri can Boy magazine is presented to the library each month by Howell Ful ler, the PictJrial Review, Ruth Erland son and McCalls magazine, Mrs. Ben nett. 107 books have been added by pur chase and 12 by gifts. 275 books have been mended and 25 discarded on ac count of their worn condition. The high cost of binding and the ad vance price of new books have forced us to do all mending possible and to economize as Minneapolis and St. Paul libraries have, by buying only that which was absolutely necessary.
