Even a newspaper man finds it hard
sometimes to fcelieve everything he
sees in print. At any rate that's the
way it affected us the other day when
a nine-year-old boy appealed to our
generosity by laying before us a card
setting forth, in unshrinking double
pica that he was a poor widow and
tho mother of five children. There's
no fancy in this pure, undiluted
truth.
North Branch has lately purchas
ed a !?1,"00 lire engine. North Branch
is an incorporated village .not much
larger than this place, has only been
incorporated about a year and have
invested in a fire engine already, and
aro building better sidewalks every
day. We hope the incorporation of
this place will not be neglected this
fall but that the citizens will enter
into it with spirit and strive t9 make
this place a model for other towns to
copy from. We might have better
sidewalks, better schools and the place
improved in general. Why let the
$000 license money go to the town
ship when it might be used for in
provement purposes here, were this an
incorporated village? Think over this
fact and do not fail to do something
this fall.
