Tho collision on tho Saginaw di

western H.iiJ.vny, Monday, was the
first accident of the kind that has
ever occurred on the road. The

instant tho locomotives struck each
other. Hoth engineers and firemen
had time to jump oif, and did no
without injury. Conductor Doolittle
was standing in the fide door of the
caboose, which was coupled to the
locomotive, and was looking towards
the rar of his train. Ho did not
nee or hear tho approaching train,
and as the locomotives btruck oacli
other the ilat car next to tho caboose
was driven through the latter car,
catching both of Doolittle's legs,
eruKhing them terribly. No one
els.. ou either train was injured, and
none of the cars on conductor Mann's
train were damaged to any consider
able extent.
It appears that conductor Doo
little did not sond out a man to tlag
the train known to be nearly due,
as he Miould havo done, ana to mis
neglect, and the fact that conductor
Mann tram was a few minutes
ahead of tima, this disaster is to bo
charged.
H.:th locomotives were so badly
damaged that it will tako several
weeks to repair them, and the com
pany will he considerably embarass

struction work in consequence.
Tho wreck was cleared away dur
ing the night and the damaged loco
motives and cars are now in tho rc

Conductor Doolittle's injuries are
very severe, but not necessarily fatal
