It's the editor's pocket-book that needs "change," and it wouldn't do any harm to give bis tcissors a "rest,' occasion ally. What might have been adisastrous fire to the village, had it been allowed to get under headway, occuriediu the tailor shop of John R. Kiel on Wednes day forenoon. When it was discover ed a large hole was burned in the .lo r ai.d the stove had fallen through. Mr. and Mrs. Kiel were away from home at the time and some of those who were near by rushed in and with a few pails of water put the .Ire out. It is supposed the fire caught from the stove. Monday evening about 43 persons Ui.. 1 . 1 .! j from thi place chartered a train and went to Port Huron to witness the play "Shane-na-Lawn" product by V. J. Scan lan, supported by a strong company. Thu play was good and the ride down and back whs pleasant and interestin arriving home about 12 o'clock that evening well pleased with their tveuingis entertainment. We think that when good companies visit Port Huron a similar trip would be in order as often as thought advisable. The railroad compauy were very kind in furnishing the special train for the occasion. A. R. Carlisle, who has been the traveling representative of C. A. A woman never lorgets lifer lovers. Ever and anon she recalls them as In a sweet, sad dream, and bhe Counts them as the nun counts her beads in her de votions. Hut a man forgets. He don't care much. A woman at 60 is always serious and sensible, and if left a widow she lives true to her memor ies, and comforts herself with her chil dren and grandchildren. But a wid ower of three score years is the biggeet fool upon earth. There ought to be a reformatory prison for boys under six teen and widowers over CO. An old widower will put crape or his hat and dye his beard, and start out on a usat rimonlal skirmish in two or three mo'ilhs after the funeral. - Tea Meeting;. Members and friends of the M. This new departure made in the so ciety line, in Rrockway Centre, New Year's day, proved a success in every particular to the complete natisfaction of all the . participants. The Calls as far as learned were limited to the fol lowing ladies and their assistants: Miss Kiltie A. Carroll, assisted by Misses Mary Richardson and Con Mills. These ladies had done evry thing in their power to satisfy the caliers arid their efforts were abund antly rewarded. The lunch served by them consisted of all the luxuries ot the season and was served with a bounteous hand. The Misses Rapleys assisted by Miss Holder, of Fort Huron, lhw call on llie above was made exceptionally pleasant by the instrumental music ren dered uii the piano by Miss Holder. Lunch wasseved in a most appropriate manner and of an enjoyable kind. The calls were not numerous, but very aigreeable and the younggentlenien extend their many thanks to the young ladies who received and bincerely hope that there will be more to call upon in ihe year 1887.
