The Fort Huron Herald has many excuses for Farnell. .It is evidently whittling down its conscience, so that it can support Cleveland with a show of dignity. It is altogether a very shrewd plan. The crop report for November shows the fall-towimrs of wheat in excellent shane throughout the state. However the "inseel" and Hessian Uy are present almost universally. No harm has been done, as yet. by either. I)id you ever buy a horse and not have some misgivings as to his points till they were fully tested? Not so with Aver's Sarsaparilla; you may be sure of it at the start. It never disap points those who give it a fair and persistant trial. Doubtless the most pleasant evening ever spent socially in the village for both old and voting was that of last Thursday. Fvery one, both old and young seemed to enjoy themselves. It was one succession of enjoyment throughout the evening. The M. E. Sunday School is making preparations for a Christmas entertain ment of some pretentions. It i3 sin cerely to be hoped that wo may have some of these beautiful entertainments thjs year. Perhaps no kind of a simple entertainment so endears itself to the hearts of the people. We notice that W. II. Harris, of Brockway, has been prospecting with a view to changing his carriage shop from Brockway to some thriving vil lage. We would urge him to try our busy village. Our growing ability for handling farm-produce is making Yale the chief trading centre in this fart of the county. This will more nerease and will prove an excellent help to him in selling his wagons. We are sure that ho will find every en couragement from the Yale people. What is needed In tho town now worst of all in tho shape of industries is a pork-packing establishment, which will dispose of the superfluous pork held by the fanners. We are confident that Ruch an enterprise could be made a paving investment here. Packing es tablishments in cities which obtain their supply from a district of no great er radius aro reaping good dividends. Moreover the low figure at which farm ers are willing to sell their pork here seem to warrant our belief. Reports from Washington show that the prices to farmers themselves are larger than ever before within tho last derade. Not only this but their de creased crops are worth much more money than ever before. The average price to farmers is fiO.l cents per bushel; the largest since 18S1. For wheat far mers are receiving on an average 81 cents per bushel. As the prico of wheat is affected by the crop in other countries a small crop here does not materially affect the price. Tho price of oats are affected by the shortago in corn. The average to farmers is 42.2 cents against 23 last year, and is the highest since 1881. The case is similar with rye for which farmers are receiv ing on an average 02.9 cents. For pota toes they are receiving on an average, 77.7 cents; 90 per cent better than last year. Farmers have really no cause of complaint on prices. They aro unusu ally bigh, although not always as a re sult of a shortage here. The School term closes next Friday. The Expositor and American Far mer both for 1.00. Great reduction in prices at Persie Johnson s. Beard & Summers shippad a car-load of poultry on Wednesday. 3-gallou kegs of first-class syrup for 81.00 at Cooper's grocery, Duflie Block The ExrosiTOit, Port Huron Weekly Times and American Farmer all for aim The F. & 1'. Michaels, with his accustomed energy, has just built a large addition to his barn. He thinks that now he will be able to accommodate fully seventy horses. A good number of the teachers of the county will attend the State Teachers' Association at Grand Hapiris next week. Sect'y E. F. Law is among the speakers booked. The two little children of P. Gilbert, who were buried in the Brockway cem etery three and four years ago, were disinterred last Monday and sent to Detroit, the present home of the parents. In behalf of the Board of School Ex aminers, Secretary Law has issued a preliminary circular to the teachers of the county, having special reference to the general examinations which take place in .March. C. F. Michaels wishes it announced that he i3 making active preparations lor a grand time at his ball and oyster supper to be held on Dec. 23th. Perk ins' orchestra will furnish the music with bis usual success. Contrary to tho report circulated in Port Huron, and which we quoted in our last issue, we have it on good au thority that I.S. Dullie will again set tie in Yale and embark as a lawyer. I In; tune set is not much later than Jan. lbt. Nearly all colds are slight, at first, but their tendency is to so lower th system that the sutlerer becomes a ready victim to prevalent disease. I lie use of Ayers' Cherry Pectoral, in the beginning ot a cold, would guard against this danger. They sat tinder the moonlight, with clasped hands trying to guess "what star would he their home when love became immortal" but soon, alas how soon she caught a cold and they had temporarily to stop guessing. They cured her, however, with ono bottle of Dr. Bull's Cough Syrup. The editor of the Mt. Clemens Press was so shocked at the turn politics took last November that he has not got over the nervous shock yet. It would be more fitting now to hear something about what the party can do now than to clatter so much about "Nov. 4." "Iled-Letter Day" etc. Jas. Cooper announces anew pcheme this week. He has 1,000 cigars to sell between now and Christmas. With these he will give away tickets on three elegant prizes. 1st. a handsome silver Dinner Set: 2nd. a smoking Set in plush cover; 3d. a merocham pipe. A ticket given with ever cigar whether 5 cent or 10 cent. Last Monday complaint was made by Marshal Clyne before Justice Mer rill against John Sexton for selling whiskey without a whiskey-selling li cense. The case in point was that of Mrs. Jordan. The defendant pled guilty, but the plea was not considered sufficient by the Justice and the exam ination was set for another day. The M. E. church people will have an oyster supper at lloseburg on New ear's evening .Jan. 1, 1891. Speaking, singing, recitations, declamations, etc., are being prepared; and a good time is anticipated. All are cordially Invited to come and enjoy themselves. Make a good beginning in '91 by helping a good cause. Admission 50 cents each; children, half-price. There is no doubt that the land in this section of the state is among the richest lu tho country. And what is more .any man who attends to his busi ness, is sure to make material progress. A man who always has some improve ment to report is TI103. Carless. Mr, Carless has just built a large brick hen house and a sheep barn. He is now making preparations to put a stone foundation under his barn and raiso It so as to be able to utilize tho room un derneath as a stable; also intends building an entirely new barn of about 2H x 40 fet dimensions. Ills repaired fences and general thriftiness about his farm show that he is not among the sorry-mouthed crowd who complain of hard times, but do nothing to better them. Despito tho intensely cold weather which prevailed last Friday, tho funer al of James Cheeseman was very large ly attended. Not only did a very large froccsslon follow the bier to the ccme cry, but the Menercy Church was packed to the uttermost during the memorial service, llev. Ira Billman preached a very fitting sermon in his honor. Mr. Cheeseman had contracted Typhoid feyer from his brother whom he had lately tended. However he had almost recovered from that disease when he was attacked with pneumonia This proved fatal, and he died Thurs day morning. Mr. Cheeseman was one of the most universally admired men in all this country. His uniform kind ness won him friends on every hand Ins untimely death is a cause of unl versal grief; and an irremediable loss to the community. Demorest's Family Magazine appears this week with an excellent article on "Snow-Shoeing". It will tell all about it; and is just the thing for the athletic Then for the artistic there is an article on "Modeling for sculpturing", finely illustrated which will show how clay modeling may b6 done. "Sage Maidens of Cornell University is another hand somely illustrated article, written by one of them telling of some of the trials and mahy of the pleasures of the life of a "co-ed at that noted seat of learn ing; the illustrated Chinese story is par ticularly interesting; the other stories are all good; the "Sanitarian has sea sonable articles about the "Effects of Cold," and how to take sit, foot, and other baths, for remedial purposes indeed, tor beauty, variety, and com pleteness.Domerest's Family Magazine must be awarded the palm or superior ity as the family magazine, and should be in every household Published by V.
