SEATTLE, Nov. 9.—Charles E.
Dunlap, a local druggist in charge of
a store on Pike street, died yesterday
of a self-inflicted wound because he
had been arrested and charged with
selling liquor in violation of the law.
Charles E. Dunlap was a pioneer of
Skagway where he was connected
with the early management of the wa
ter company, and he had been employ
ed in drugstores.
WRANGELL.—What came as a de
cided shock to his folks and to the citi
zens of Wrangell was the news of the
death of Karta Case who in some
mysterious manner accidently shot
himself Wednesday morning about
eleven o’clock while hunting on Brush
Island.

NOME.—H. H. Moller, one of our
prominent merchants and member of
the city council, today received the
sad intelligence of the death of his
wife, Maggie Moller, who died in
Berkeloy, California, at the home of
her mother. Mr. Moller has the sym-!
pathy of his many friends in Nome j
, in his great bereavement.

NOME.—A letter recently received
in Nome says that Claude Shea, who
1 for many years lived in Nome and was
i one of the High school boys, was re
cently married in Seattle to Miss
Cleveland, a cousin of Mrs. Chas.
Thompson of this city.
NOME.—The Mecca saloon has
closed its doors and it is understood
the management has transfered the
license to the Northern saloon, which
place is owned by the same company,
who owned and operated the Mecca.
SEATLE, Oct. .10.—Sneak thieves
entered a room occupied by Frederick
W. Best, of Nome, at the Frye hotel
and obtained gold nuggets weighing
nearly fourteen ounces and valued at
j $260, some time Tuesday night. Mr.
i Best was not in his rooms between 10
! o’clock Tuesday morning and 9 o’
clock yesterday morning, and upon his
arrival there yesterday morning dis
covered the loss of the nuggets.—(Se

Senator Gustad is a mining man
j and senior member of the firm of
Gaustad and Trosseth which has op
erated for several years on Cleary
creek near Chatanika, the creek’s ter
minus of the Tanana Valley railroad.
Formerly he was a newspaper man,
and he has had a good deal of exper
ience in public matters. He is popu
j lar and deservedly so. He is a Nor
wegian by birth, American by adop
tion and education. He is about 40
. years of age, and came to the United
j States in 1884.
JUNEAU.—James Hay Whipple,
beloved of Juneau, is dead. He passed
i into the sleep which knows no waking
Saturday night at 9:30 o’clock, in Cal
ifornia.
FAIRBANKS, Nov. 7.—George Par
ker, a Fairbanks creek raining oper
ator, died here of pneumonia, and will
be buried today.
W. F. Matlock, formerly of Daw- t
son and Fairbanks, and a pioneer of
Juneau, died several days ago at his
old home in Pendleton, Oregon. Mr.
Matlock was the father of Mrs. E. E.
Emmons, who lived for years with her
husband in South Dawson, where they
were engaged in business.
