NEWS NOTES
A copy of the Imoporial Valley
Press of El Centro, Southern Cali
fornia, which has just been received
bv Al Chamberlin contains photo
graphs of Mr. and Mrs. Frank L. Ral
laine who, the paper says, suddenly
made a million dollars by th<* rise in
real estate values here. It also has a
picture of the Evans arriving with a
big crowd at the crowded dock.
S. L. Colwell is moving the house
off Lot .T.) block 4 where he will
excavate for a basement.
Uncle Joe Irvine arrived this morn
ing in the city by dog team. 1 he trip
in tin* darkness was all right, Uncle
Joe says, if the dogs only lot tin* por
cupine alone. “We couldn’t .<•«* the
porcupines hut the blankety dogs
spotted 'em every time and went after
Vm” said he.
The pile driver got up steam at the
wharf last evening and a crew of men
went to work with it this morning.
Architect Kingsley ha» erected an
oftice bidding in the lot near the do
Shcrbinin and Whitehead office.
Roy Anderson, a brother of Andy
Anderson, cashier of Rrov n and
Hawkins, is now in the city.
Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Corlew have
written to say that they will arrive in
Seward on the Wat on. Mrs. Corlew
is a sister of Mrs. VV. VS. Putts.
Colonel Revell has been allowed by
the government thirty-three acres of
the homestead staked by him at the
head of the bay according to an ex
change.
The fishing around Woodrow Park,
at Mile Six, is now splendid. Ac
comodations may be secured at the
Johnstom roadhouse in the Park.
Across the bay John Nash has the
most wonderful cat on record. Thi.->
feline hunts rabbits like a terrier and
brings home the game right to the
house.
Miss Ruth Spence, daughter of the
district attorney for this division, has
been elected school teacher at Unga
by the school board. Miss Spence i
«nn accomplished young lady.
T. M. Fiske of Wenatchee stated
recently to a Juneau newspaper that
he has purchased a half interest in the
business of (i. G. Roe of Seward.
( Fiske went out to bring in an outfit
for enlarging the business, according
to the same authority.
Mrs. Isabel Goetz has taken a posi
tion as stenographer in the Rank of
Seward.
Herbert Tozier went over to Mile
Twenty last evening on one of the
railroad rigs and sent back word that
the snow has disappeared from the
summit.
