MINING MAN IS MUCH IMPRESSED GOES OUT TO INSPECT PROP ERTIES AND WRITES BACK IN OPTIMISTIC STRAIN. A mining man who has come here representing large capital to look over the mining industry on Kenai penin sula sends the Gateway his impression by letter from the hills. Before leav ing he was asked to do so as his opin ion would be of the most valuable kind. He refuses to permit the use of his name. In dealing with tue gen eral outlook he declares that it several ledges existing along the Alaska Northern railroad were outside they would be grabbl'd up immediately. Indeed, he is most enthusiastic and if he had allowed the use of his name his general summing up would be of the greatest interest to the miners here. As it is, the following specific opinions from him are worth repro ducing as showing the opinion of an expert mining man who has never be fore been in Alaska: “All along the railroad as far north as Mile Forty-five there are apparent ly good properties ami prospects. Be ginning at the south, there are pros pects at Mite post Four and Seven. At Seventeen Fred Martin gets some heavily mineralized quartz that should he prospected furtlu r. Then there is the Primrose mine which i am told is owned by Seward people and shows evidence of making a good property. “At Twenty-fi'o the Skeen-Pechner and the Kenai-Alaska properties have produced sufficient in the past to justify the belief that the future holds something good in store for their owners. While the Skeen-Peihner property is now idle. Jus. Pernnan and associates have a lease on the Kenai Alask.i and several men are at work crosscutting the ledge, which should be cut within the next ten days. MANTELL, Motel Seward then expect to start up the mill and indications are favorable for a busy season and probably, a profitable one, on this old producer. “On Grant Lake Al. Sellers has an excellent prospect which he expects to work this season. It is reported that he has an exposed ledge of highly mineralized quartz eight feet in width and traceable for a considerable dis tance on the surface. On the other side of the lake 10. It. Weaver has some claims which have good show-1 ings but on which mere work will be needed before anything definite can! be ascertained as to their value. The Whitney ground on which Jus.1 U. Hayden’s lease produced eight hundred ore last fall, is now idle. “Over in the Moose Pass country ! several men are working on some good looking prospects and undoubt edly something good will be opened there this summer. This field is cer tain to attract considerable attention, i “At Mile Forty, Poindexter, Sollars and Martin all have prospects, some of which are now being opened up with excellent showings. “Taking the country immediately tributary to the railroad from Mile Four to Mile Forty, there are at least -- (>n account of some of the machinery goin£ astray between Chicago ami Seattle The Seward Soda Works Will Not Open Until About June 1st I'pstatrs Over the Soda Works a First-Class Photograph Studio managed hv one of the host art ist> on the coast.
