FORMER NOME WOMAN
IN TROUBLE IN SEATTLE.
SEATTLE, August 2.—Mrs. Leroy
Tozier, the former wife of the well
known Fairbanks lawyer and who is
conducting a lady barber shop in this
city, was landed in the city bastile on
the charge of flourishing a revolver
during an altercation with Patrolman
Burgess. According to the story told
by Burgess, the Tozier woman held
him up at the point of a gun while she
delivered her opinion of policemen
generally and those of Seattle in par
ticular. Burgess says that the re
marks of Mrs. Tozier were pointed in
the extreme and were made particu
larly emphatic by the leveled revolver
held on a level with his nose. The
woman was formerly well known in
the northern territory and has resided
in all of the more prominent mining
camps from Dawson to Nome.—(Ex.)

ACCUSES WIFE OF PLOT.
Clyde L. Morris, Answering Divorce
Complaint, Alleges Scheming.
SEATTLE, August 7.—Declaring
that his wife had laid a “carefully
planned scheme to obtain grounds for
a divorce,” Clyde L. Morris, ex-presi
dent of the Arctic Club and general
contractor, yesterday filed an affidavit
in the superior court in answer to his
wife’s complaint. According to Mr.
Morris he visited his home on July
5 to take his daughter for an auto
ride. He declares his wife screamed
and held him from the child at the
point of a pistol so it might appear
he was attempting to kidnap the
child. He denies in his affidavit that
he is worth $500,000, and ask* to be
released from paying $500 monthly
alimony.—(P. I.)
JUNEAU.—The wreck of the Inl
ander has been located as near as
dragging and sounding can establish
the location by the crew of men work
ing under the direction of VV. J. Kog
ers, expert diver and inventor who is
going to try to recover the valuables
on the wreck with a ten-ton sub
marine boat of special type.
The first descent to the wreck will
be attempted on Wednesday morning,
after the barge Palmyra has been
firmly anchored over tin* spot.
The wreck is lying in «j0 fathoms
of water on a direct line between
Greens Cove ami Marmion Island,
about in the middle of the Channel,
or from a mile and a halt to a mile
and a quarter from Marion Island to
wards the south end of Douglas Isl
and.
The wreck was located by the drags
on Friday and some cable and other
gear was brought to the top at that*
time, but the anchors on the barge
were not thought to be large enough
and no effort to descend to the wreck
was made.
A four-ton anchor and a thousand
feet of inch and a quarter steel cable
will be taken out this morning on a
scow and the barge will be firmly
anchored over the spot where the
wreck lies, after which the first at
tempt to reach the wreck will be
made.—(Dispatch.)
ISLANDER NOT YET LOCATED.
JUNEAU.—Dragging for the
wreck of the steamship Islander, oiT
the southerly point of Douglas Island,
has thus far failed to reveal the spot
where the vessel lies on the floor of
Lynn Canal, according to W. J. Rug
el's, export diver who has financed the
expedition. Mr. Rogers was in Ju
neau today.
Mr. Rogers declares that the drag
was made for a distance of 200 yards
in every direction from the spot
where the Islander wont down, alter
striking an iceberg on August 15,
1901. The place is said to be known to
Henry Finch, a veteran diver, who
showed Mr. Rogers its location on the
charts. By no means disheartened,
Mr. Rogers announces his determina
tion to continue the search for the
vessel, having anticipated when the
expedition was formed, that the loca
tion of the wreck would be u* easy
task.—(Empire.)
