Milo Hulbert and associates are turning out a good grade on native lumber and have a market for all that they can saw. The price of this lum ber is much less than lumber that is shipped into the country. It is the in tention of the Seldovia saw mill peo ple to enlarge their plant, so that they will be able to accommodate their patrons with lumber in the future. The last Evans brought several home-seekers to the Katchemak Bay country. The Explorer recently called in at I Seldovia, and said that it was their intention to coal up with J. A. Her bert coal upon their next trip in for mail. Mrs. Julius Christiansen, daughter of the late Adam Bloch, has been con i fined to her bed for the last month, however, her condition is much im proved. Mr. Salator, who was associated wfith a herring company on the gas i boat Shark, has been to Seattle where he arranged for the sale of his fish, and it is his intention to start in to cure herring as soon as he can get his equipment in shape. Capt. I. D. Nordyko has the con tract to carry the mail for Seldovia to Illiamna after the 25th of each month. Ralph Anderson and I. D. Nordyke have added several buildings to their plant at the Island of St. Helena, due to the light run of fish they have not been very busy with that phase of 1 the work, but have lent their energies | to construction. They intend to double their output next season. The process of drying and smoking the fish is aided by a large fan, the pow ; er for keeping the fan in motion, is supplied by a small stationary motor. The Seldovia school will open about the first week in September. At the present time the school house is be ing repainted and many improve ments made. It is the desire of the teacher employed here to have a mod ern play ground arranged near the school house. Miss Anderson ha* asked the citizens of Seldovia to do nate a day to this work. It will be a general w'ork and play for all, finish ing up in the evening with a big dance. Miss Anderson, reports that everyone is most responsive when any improvements about the school is needed.
