Juneau Emipre:—Unless some new' phase of the school tuition question developer within the next week, all students living outside of the city limits will he obliged to pay to City Clerk E. W. Petit the tuition fee of * I $7 before they will be permitted to register for the coming term of school. Speaking unofficially yester day, the treasurer of the school board said that so far as he knew each child desiring to register would be requir ed to present to the superintendent of schools either a certificate of his resi dence as being within the city limits or a receipt for the tuition fee before his name would be entered on the school rolls. Another member of the board said that he could see no other way to handle the situation since the city council had passed a resolution stipulating that the tuition fee should be charged. SECOND LIQUOR ELECTION CALLED. PETERSBURG, Alaska, Aug. 31.— —Judge Robert VV. Jennings yester day called a special election to deter mine whether or not a majority of the residents of Petersburg want saloons. The action followed a meeting at which the “dry” and “wets” present ed their arguments to the court. The “drys” were represented by A. B. Callahan, an attorney of Juneau. Judge Jennings decided that a suffi cient majority had not been polled by the “wets” at the election May 21, and set the date for the second election for September 11. The campaign has begun anew.
