ROBBED IN JAIL
GRAND FORKS, N. D., Oct. 7.—
That he was robbed in jail, was the
complaint of John George a Turk.
! George said he secreted $400 from the
guards, when imprisoned, but told a
■ fellow prisoner about it. Guards
heard a commotion, and rescued
i George. His complaint was that his
antagonist had stolen his $400. The
guards could not find the money.
ST. PAUL, Minn., Oct. 7.—Excite
ment reigned big when Victor John
son caught an alligator, while peace
fully fishing in White Bear Lake, a
fashionable suburban summer resort.
It was several days before Victor
found the alligator had been placed
on his hook by friends.

VDVISORY BOARD ASKS
FOR GREAT LABORATORY
Wants Eight .Million Dollars to Build
Greatest Structure of
Its Kind
WASHINGTON. Oct. 8.—The nav
al advisory board has decided to ask
for an appropriation of eight million
dollars to build a gigantic laboratory
for the purpose of carrying out ex
periments on a huge scale that the
American navy might lx* made the
greatest in the world. Secretary
Daniels of the navy department will
recommend to congress that the ap
propriation be granted.
