Butter and Eggs Orders from the Westward and Cook Inlet (liven Careful Attention Fourth Ave Seward PORTAGE BAY MILL LOOKS LIKE FALIURE The Talkeetna Lumber Company, whose operations on Portage bay have been enveloped in an air of mystery ever since construction of the mill was first commenced last spring, is in the hands of a trustee, because of non payment of employes and the dis appearance of official keeper of the payroll. The trustee is H. E. Ellis, of Valdez, who holds a mortgage on the property. A member of the company named | Johnson left for Seattle several weeks ; ago to arrange to meet the payroll I and other obligations, but failed to re i turn or to notify the anxious credi tors. The Talkeetna Lumber Company was promoted by John Endlund, for merly of Cordova and Fairbanks. It secured a large contract from the Railway Commission and erected a ‘ small but complete plant near the i head of Portage bay, where a fine ‘ body of timber was accessible. KILLING OF VK 101 S DOGS AI THORIZEI) BY STATUE An act passed by the last legisla ' turn authorizes killing of vicious dogs under certain conditions, und i» herewith reproduced for tin* informa tion of the public: “It shall be lawful for any person | at any time to kill any vicious or mad dog found running at large. “Any dog which, when unprovoked, has ever bitten or attacked a human being shall lx* deemed vicious. “Whenever any dog habitually an noys reindeer, sheep, cattle or horses, or domestic animals or domestic | fowls, or evinces a disposition which renders it likely that it will without provocation bite such animals or fowls, it shall be lawful for any per son to kill such dog, when at large: Provided, however, that the owner or keeper of such dog, if known, shall be notified and given reasonable oppor tunity to restrain such dog before it shall become lawful to kill it under the provisions of this section.” ,-■■1 I ■ ■ I— ■ ■ ■ — — TO LO VAN A TOWN SHOWS RAPID GROWTH The new town of Brooks, metrop olis of the Tolovana mining district, has had a growth almost as phenom enally rapid as that of Anchorage. | Although the first building was erect ed there in September, there were ninety-five completed on the 1st of December, in addition to about fifty tents. The town has three principal streets, running parallel with Liven i good creek, on the right limit, with a majority of the business houses along one of these for a distance of three quarters of a mile, and the residence portion on the gentle slope above these.
