the following is a copy of a resolution
passed by the common council of the
Town of Seward, Alaska, on the 29tb
day of May, 1916.
BE IT RESOLVED, by the common
council of the town of Seward, terri-1
tory of Alaska.
That the said common council here- j
by declares its intention to improve
Adams Street, in said town by grad
ing of the same according to the
grade established by the City Engi
neer and adopted by the said council,
between Fourth Avenue and the:
Adams Street crossing of the Alaska
Northern Rail wry.
Two thirds of the expense and cost
of th* improvement to be assessed and
taxed to the abutting property.
The City Engineer has made esti
mate of the approximate cost of said
grading to be the sum of one thousand 1
three hundred and live dollars ($1,*'
liOo.OO),. To each lot the sum of lirty
cents per front foot of the property
abutting on said proposed improve
ment; That is to say the total cost of
said improvement will be seventy-five
cents per front foot of the property
abutting on said improvement, two
thirds of which cost is to be paid by

Street, in said town, by constructing
a plank side walk, thereon, on the
North side thereof, between Fourth
Avenue and the Adams Street cross- (
ing of the Alaska Northern Railroad;
also the necessary street and alley
crossings therewithin attached. Said
side walk to be ten feet wide and built
according to ordinance. Two thirds of
the cost and expense thereof to be as
sessed against the abutting owners.

Americans unreservedly against both
Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow
Wilson for president of the United
States,” was the slogan Illinois Ger
man-Americans expected to plant in
the min Is of the officials of every
German-American alliance attending
the meeting of tin* National Alliance
which convenes in Chicago tomorrow.
One hundred officials of state alli
ance ami editors of German news
papers are expected to attend.
“Opposition to Wilson and Roose
velt is an Illinois Gcrman-American
idea and we expect to promulgate it
throughout the United States,” Pr.
Herman Gerhard, chairman of the
political committee declared today.
“I know the man 1 want to see
president,” Dr. Gerhard said. “I may
get a chance to vote for him.” He
would not say who his choice is.
“I do not believe the republicans
will nominate Roosevelt and unless
Wilson is nominated on the first bal
lot 1 don’t believe he wilt be nominat
ed.”
