NEWS NOTES The bridge gang at Mile 52 and the extra gang, or some of them, at Mile 54 and other working units on the railroad have been laid otf and came to town last night. Mr. and Mrs. this SeitTert and Vin cent arrived by train this morning and will probably spend the winter out side. Joe Radger arrived by train this morning and intends to become an ac tive participant in the athletic club events. The ubiquitous Joe Morris and Roy Williamson, the Anchorage athletic patron, blew in this morning over land. Joe had the same old smile ami Roy had much more of the same than he had when he came ho re to back the Anchorage baseball team with cash money. They are here on business. Anton Eide returned on the Watson after an inspection of the roads. T. M. Hunt, forest supervisor, will | he here all winter hut will pay one more visit to Anchorage. Mr. and Mrs. Kd. Sept. 2.’*.—The Fair banks hoid was opened yesterday with the largest enrollment of pupils ever on hand at the opening of school in the history of the town. There were an even 200 pupils present. Mr. Lloyd had several hemorrhages, and last night he was still a very sick man. although he was greatly im proved. and had not had a recurrence of the hemorrhage since his arrival at! the hospital. According to informa tion received at the hospital, Mr. Lloyd was resting comfortably last evening, although he was still very weak from the loss of blood.—Ex. I CARIBOU ARE NOW RUNNING IN THOUSANDS FAIRBANKS, Oct. 16.—The annual run of caribou is now on. At least, that is the report which reaches Fair banks, brought down by arrivals from the Rig Chena Hot Springs. The in formation is to the effect that thou sands of caribou are going south along the divides at the head of the Rig Chena river, the informant’s state- j meat being to the effect thut fully l,.r>00 pass within gunshot of the Rig Chena Hot Springs hotel every day. Nearly every year witnesses the run of the caribou at the head of the Rig Chena. Some years they go south by other routes further beyond the Rig Chena and nearer the Eagle coun try, while at times they cross nearer to Fairbanks. One year large num bers of the animals were slaughtered on Fairbanks creek, when the run happened to come by that way. THOMAS H. It is understood that a few are now at the head of the Big Chena, among them being Joe Poz and Jack O’Con nor, of Fairbanks.—Citizen. WOMAN HITS MARSHAL FAIRBANKS, Oct. 2.—According to advices received from the coast, one of the insane patients became very hard to manage on the trail. She attacked Marshal Erwin, hitting him between the eyes, shattering his glasses, and tearing his face. The marshal's party drove most of last night to reach Chitna in time to get through to catch the train.—Ex.
