HOW THE ZEPPELINS FELL NORFOLK COAST, Tuesday, No vember 28.—A Zeppelin was brought down in flames ofT the Norfolk coast this morning and disappeared with her entire crew beneath the waves seven miles out at sea. Soon after G a. m. the sound of heavy gunfire brought the people of the town and adjacent coast village.-, out of doors. From the shore, due east, the Zeppelin was clearly observ able against the dark sky. She was illumined faintly by the first flush of dawn and the brilliance of the stars. Apparently the raider was disabled; she seemed merely to be drifting in the keen north wind. The gunfire continued furiously and there were several aeroplanes attempting to ut tack her, she, in her turn, firing at them from her machine guns. With in a few seconds a glowing spot ap peared in her side and spread out fort* and aft in a line of quivering fire. As the Zeppelin, now a mass of flame, dropped with a queer rocking motion down the dark sky towards the waves then* was wild cheering on shore and a paean from ship’s sirens. A part of Kngland which has suffer ed more directly from the war than almost all others at la.^t saw the enemy “downed.” The aeroplanes went up and fought the raider at sea when it was at a height of H,:;<)<) ft. It had come slowly overland towards the Norfolk coast as though it had suffered some damage and was saving its engine power as much as possible or effect ing some repairs. Its speed was not more than 25 to ”>0 miles per hour, which, coupled with its great height, caused people on shore to think that it was scarcely moving at all. Hut directly tin* airmen attacked, it accel erated to between 50 and 55 miles per hour, at which speed it was travelling when it was brought down. The tight lasted 15 minutes, and the airship was almost exactly one minute fall ing after it burst into flames. I on don Daily Mail.
